Marnel van der Spuy: June 2015
http://mvdspuy.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. At the start of the year there was a buzz on twitter about choosing one word for the year to focus on. I really liked the idea as I have my own opinion around Goals or Resolutions. As can be seen in my blog post in 2014). The word I chose was ' open. And I listed numerous points to 'guide' me throughout the year. Transformation, by renewing my mind with new knowledge/learning - ( I am continuing my reading and wrote a reflection on. Revisiting transformation and teaching practice.

Marnel van der Spuy: The hunt is still on...
http://mvdspuy.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-hunt-is-still-on.html
Sunday, August 9, 2015. The hunt is still on. This weekend I learnt that the platform I have been using with my 5 year old students for their ePortfolios will be moving to paid memberships in September. When reading the content of the email, I became really frustrated as I have been using Kidblog for a number of years successfully with my students. After a while I realised that although I felt disappointed that I now had to look for other alternatives, I had to look at the positive in this situation.

Thursday, May 21, 2015. Modern Learning Practice - edchatNZ. What great timing" I thought, seeing this week's edchatNZ topic, as this has been discussed at last weekend's Educamp in Hawkes Bay. Due to me facilitating a blogging session on the Saturday, I was unable to attend the session around Modern Learning Practice and I was rightly exited to learn more. However, I think that [at times] too many emphasis are being placed on the 'environments' rather than the practice. Marnel van der Spuy. One of the s...

Marnel van der Spuy: Reading - not a challenge at home anymore
http://mvdspuy.blogspot.com/2015/06/reading-not-challenge-at-home-anymore.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Reading - not a challenge at home anymore. In collaboration with a colleague, I have [again] presented the Reading Together Programme to parents. A highlight for students were when the mobile library to came to our school as they now have their own library cards. What I like about this programme is that families/wh ā. One of the feedback highlights was when a parent said that her involvement in this programme [with her child] motivated her to become a reader herself again! Conne...

Faafetai: Persuasive Writing Task
http://pesfaafetaig.blogspot.com/2015/06/persuasive-writing-task.html
This blog is a record of Faafetai’s learning from primary school through to college. Monday, 29 June 2015. NO MORE PLAYTIME FOR PRIMARY KIDS. 17 August 2015 at 11:56. I agree that it is really important for children to have a chance for some fresh air and something to eat. We need to feed our brains and our bodies to keep us awake and ready to learn. Marnel van der Spuy: Teaching practice and Learning opportunities
http://mvdspuy.blogspot.com/2015/08/teaching-practice-and-learning.html
Friday, August 14, 2015. Teaching practice and Learning opportunities. I was fortunate enough to visit yet another school, leading the way around MLP. One thing that stood out was how students were able to talk about their learning. That was a good indicator that students own their learning. I could see that students enjoy sharing and collaborating with others. (using Google Docs in their learning). Students should evaluate their own learning to be able to tell if they are making progress. The hunt is st...

Thursday, August 27, 2015. The meaning of putting students in the centre of learning. (a discussion). What does putting students in the centre of learning mean? Why would/should we do this? How do we do this? Education should not be knowledge-based, but child-centred." - Sir Ken Robinson. Marnel van der Spuy. Labels: RTC 04 - Professional Learning. RTC 06 - Planning. Marnel van der Spuy: Revisiting transformation & teaching practice
http://mvdspuy.blogspot.com/2015/06/revisiting-transformation-teaching.html
Saturday, June 20, 2015. Revisiting transformation and teaching practice. As Term 2 is about to conclude, I feel that I should reflect once more on my teaching practice. I have made my students the focus, placed them in the centre and built on prior knowledge. I made a huge effort to individualize (but not personalize) the learning for each student. A blog post by Derek. Have I used ' the three keys to unlock transformation potential. I feel that knowledge building is supported through the SOLO Inquiry m...
