A Country Farmhouse

Thursday, May 14, 2015. Lthough I've already posted on what the house looked like when we purchased it. I realized how different it looked with the prior furnishings. So I've put together a few 'before' before images as I find it so fascinating to see how a home was used, where the furniture was placed, and where the special nooks were created. The room that we are going to use as an office/library was used as a guest room. The room looks so different with beds in it. It makes me realize how dist...It wi...

In the Fields : Floors and Doors

http://acountryfarmhouse.blogspot.com/2014/10/floors-and-doors.html

Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Ne of the more dominant themes of the last several weeks of our old house renovation has involved doors and floors. What do these two very different house elements have in common? They were both covered with various degrees of lead paint, some of which was in need of repair. They are also both considered friction and wear surfaces (as are windows), so they require more attention simply due to the kind of use they endure. Talking about something called a Silent Paint Remover.

In the Fields : Acquisitions

http://acountryfarmhouse.blogspot.com/2015/02/acquisitions.html

Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Have been acquiring some things opportunistically here and there for our new house since August. I thought I'd share a few of them, in no particular order. Here is a vintage Federal mirror that I found at an antique store nearby. The toile wing back chair, also found at an antique store. An original Federal hall mirror, woefully under appreciated at auction. A gilt pier mirror, also acquired at auction. A Sheraton settee, at auction (auction photo). It's not the perfect time t...

In the Fields : Staircase Progress

http://acountryfarmhouse.blogspot.com/2015/04/progress-on-staircase.html

Thursday, April 30, 2015. Post by Mike and Catherine. Began the onsite restoration of the staircase and railing last week. We've been taking photos along the way and thought we'd share some images from the installation. In the first photo above, you can see the profile of the old filigree in the old crusty paint below the treads. The filigree had to be removed from the side of the staircase to enable the installation. Mike used the silent paint remover. The vertical notches shown above in the end of the ...

A day in the life of...: January 2011

http://karlandsaide.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

A day in the life of. Sunday, January 23, 2011. It was a little interesting around our house today. It was actually nothing out of the norm for us or probably for any other house with little boys running around. But today there was proof to be seen of the craziness that I live in. Hudson has a habit of sticking things up his nose. We keep most things out of his reach that we know will find a home inside one of his nostrils but he still mananges to suprise us. Oh the joys of having a house full of boys!

Peterson Party of 3: January 2012

http://petersonpartyof3.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 16, 2012. The snow finally came and we couldn't help but have a sledding party. It was a blast! The hill proved to be "bullet fast" so Michael got out the tractor and shovel to shape a "safety bank" of snow. The kids patiently waited the best they could. Once the bank of safety snow was in place, the kids got in line for a ride down the hill. Parents had a good time too:). Posted by Shelly, Michael and Kailey. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). An Urban Cottage: Restoring Charm

http://anurbancottage.blogspot.com/2015/01/restoring-charm.html

Sunday, January 11, 2015. Remodelista: A Bewitching Old Stone House. I was talking with someone about renovating an old house a few months ago and I came to. The conclusion that my goal isn't always "renovation" as much as it is "restoring charm." One. Of the things I love about old houses are the details, sometime quirks, that they have. Darryl Carter's Living Room. Darryl Carter, same room, different view. Some of my favorite details are shutters and moldings. Looks still has its original shutters.

Life with the P's. A young couple living life – remodeling, diy projects, and everything in between! On October 2, 2011. Don’t laugh – yes, it actually sat like that for almost a year. The spiral staircase definitely looked odd without any handrail. In our defense, there were. As with the entire house, this area isn’t completely finished yet, but at least the deck is done! Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Forget October, November is almost half-way over. Not sure why but once we reached October, it has felt like the year is racing down toward the end of December very fast! Is it only me or do others notice that? This is a sweet picture of Leif with his first and only grandchild - and a Boy! This is not a very good picture but it is a painting that Erin did. The colors are wonderful. Pam has it hung up very high in her kitchen. So much talent all of these girls have. I snatche...

And I love them! They lasted a very long time. I also want to share a few pictures of the flowers Kelly and Brian planted on my deck the last weekend they were here. It actually lived longer than any orchid I've ever had! The best part is she took to it right away and really likes it. Kelly knew about the surpri...
