adventures in rome

Saturday, March 19, 2011. Pigna, the ninth Rione of Rome is one of the smallest, but hosts many of Rome’s most famous sites. Pigna means “pinecone” due to the large bronze pinecone statue that used to reside in the gargen of the Temple of Iside and Serapide. The statue is now seen in the Vatican Museum between two peacock statues. Medieval legend said that the pinecone statue served as a lid to the Pantheon. The Pantheon is one of the most recognizable sites in the world. These were eventually taken down...

adventures in rome: February 2011

http://www.adventuresinrome-kelsey.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 21, 2011. This story follows the journey of a girl returning to her childhood home in Cambodia after leaving years ago due to the political crisis. I believe the pivotal point in the story is when Fatima has her first sip of sugarcane juice, “I went over to the sugarcane juice seller and immediately ordered a glass of fresh-squeezed. I fervently took a sip, the first in twenty years. Its taste, its fragrance took me back in time, to that distance day when I left Phnom-Penh” (32). The piv...

adventures in rome: artist statement

http://www.adventuresinrome-kelsey.blogspot.com/2011/02/artist-statement.html

Monday, February 21, 2011. My artwork reflects the time I’ve spent in Rome. From seeing historical sites to little neighborhoods, my time here has been full of eye opening experiences. The box represents some of the things that have made an impact in my time studying abroad. It also relates to the reading, “The Beggar” and his box of words. Studying here and being submersed in this environment has made me more aware of the issues Italy is facing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

adventures in rome: January 2011

http://www.adventuresinrome-kelsey.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 23, 2011. When we first arrived at Piazza Vittorio I felt like we had entered Chinatown. There were tons of people there who didn’t look like the many Italians I was used to seeing in the Campo. Germaine and I walked around the stalls, checking out the fresh seafood and meat. There were also tons of familiar fruits and veggies I was used to seeing back in Seattle. As we explored the market, we kept an eye out for any younger merchants who we might be able to interview. One thing I noticed...

non parlo italiano: Rione Trevi

http://marsonear.blogspot.com/2011/03/rione-trevi.html

Sunday, March 20, 2011. When choosing Rioni for this project, I thought it was strictly based on the fountain. But I actually thought the opposite, the fountain is built and based from the Rione. Take away the thousands of tourist and tourist traps this Rioni is a fine example of the progression of the different eras Rome has went through and ability to adapt and survive the change. Monday, February 28, 2011. The past eight weeks of my stay here in Rome, my view of Italy has changed dramatically from what it was before coming. One issue that is very complicated and always up for discussion is the authenticity of something that is considered Italian, what and who is Italian? It has to be long enough for native Italians to become accustomed to the their presence, isn’t that Italian? Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Monday, January 24, 2011. Once in the market, some might say that it is multi-cultural but this was easily explained by the first person that we interviewed “everyone here is from Bangladesh.”. My partner and I were walking around and we came across the seafood section, a man working at one of the stands then approached us. He first spoke to us in Italian but with my Italian not being anywhere close to hold a conversation I simply replied “ sono americano. Sunday, January 23, 2011. Amendment of the Ameri...

December 31, 2016. We have had a busy season, like every Christmas, complete with a village Christmas program, 3 days of caroling with the youth group, and dinner for some kids in the orphanage on Christmas day! And had enough boxes along with us to give to each one. The message was about celebrations and what they mean, a renewed thankfulness in our hearts. The choir’s songs filled the church’s hall and the attendees’ hearts. Thank you for your involvement! December 10, 2016. November 16, 2016. The cele...

Adventures in Room 206 - Home

Blogging from Room 206. Teaching is an adventure! Every day is a new experience in a fourth grade classroom. You spend hours planning and have a vision of what each day will look like. However, the students in your class are not aware of your ponderings. With every question or comment posed by a student, you plans are "tweaked" or even laid by the wayside. This spontaneity is why teaching is an adventure. For additional products, please be sure to visit my TPT site by clicking the link below!
