There is a recreational riding stable on Alpine Meadows Road that serves summer vacationers. Rides include group trail rides in the forest, pony rides for children, and private rides of varying difficulty. Their trail rides go through mature redwoods with views of the valley. The stables are usually open June through September depending on the weather. See their website here. Piping Rock Equestrian Center. Outside Truckee offers lessons and trail rides by appointment.

Cycling is a popular summer sport at Lake Tahoe. There are great opportunities for road bike riders as well as mountain bike riders. There are several local places to rent bikes, if that is convenient. Lake Tahoe also hosts several demanding rides for competitive atheletes. Note: there is bus service (Tahoe Area Rapid Transit aka TART) along the major routes in case you want to ride one way and return on the bus. Road Bike Routes (see maps below). There are great outdoor swimming opportunities available when the weather is warm and the snow-fed lakes have had a chance to warm up. The Lake Tahoe areas have beach access while the smaller lakes have access over the rocks on the shore. DL Blss State Park has a swimming beach. It is down the west side of the Lake on the way to Emerald Bay. There is a beach with a swim area at Donner Lake. They have showers and rest rooms. There is an admission charge.
