Adventures in Sewing Vintage. Dior Exhibition: The Gallery of Costume, Manchester. Posted on July 17, 2013. Nestled in the rather lovely Platt Fields Park, and very agreeably a five minute walk from my house, is The Gallery of Costume. Entirely funded by the City Council it has, in recent years, been refurbished and updated to include a changing exhibitions gallery, all housed in the magnificent Georgian Grade II listed building. It’s free entry and open daily. Evening Dress, 1956. Day Dress, 1948. My fa...

kgirlknits: It fits!
http://kgirlknits.blogspot.com/2015/07/it-fits.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. Is finally dry after nearly a week on the racks. I haven’t been home much this week so the heater hasn’t been on a lot, and this combined with the cold front Melbourne has been experiencing meant it was a slower blocking process than normal but worth it. The alpaca/wool blend has behaved itself beautifully, and I’m pleased to report my calculations and mods have worked just as anticipated. Actually, I have 1 and ¼ skeins left over. Short rows are also used again at the hem to accom...

kgirlknits: with bated breath..
http://kgirlknits.blogspot.com/2015/07/with-bated-breath.html
Monday, July 20, 2015. I'm always nervous about the first blocking of a garment, but never more so that when there is alpaca involved. Alpaca fleece makes a beautiful, luscious yarn with lovely drape and a buttery handle. It also lacks the "memory" of wool, and is well-known for it's tendency to stretch and sag.not ideal when knitting a garment and unless you're aware and make allowances, you're more likely to end up with a knitted dress than a jumper. Location: Melbourne VIC, Australia. That is just bea...

kgirlknits: Passion project
http://kgirlknits.blogspot.com/2015/08/passion-project.html
Tuesday, August 04, 2015. I've been working quietly behind the scenes on a bit of a passion project for nearly 2 years, and I'm now so excited to tell you that my new venture - Whisky Bay Woollens. Has gone LIVE today! Over my years of knitting, I have worked with so many different variances of yarn but when it comes down to it, I have realised I love woolly wool. The rustic, rugged textures combined with it's properties of tactile properties make my heart sing. Squeaky Beach fingerless mitts. The first ...

kgirlknits: Nothing new under the sun
http://kgirlknits.blogspot.com/2015/06/nothing-new-under-sun.html
Saturday, June 20, 2015. Nothing new under the sun. Recently I knit a pair of socks for myself, without the aid of any pattern other than my own understanding and acquired knowledge of how a sock is knit. This is nothing ground-breaking or particularly clever of course. It's just simply a by-product, an accumulation, of the construction of the hundreds of patterns I have knit over the years and held within my mind and hands. And some needles and cast on ready for the train commute home. I took a calculat...

Untangling Knots: Sewing: Red Circle Skirt
http://theandipants.blogspot.com/2010/08/sewing-red-circle-skirt.html
Patterns and How Tos. Monday, August 2, 2010. Sewing: Red Circle Skirt. I did the hem with bias tape. I love circle skirts but I hate hemming them. Bias tapes makes it a thousand times easier. I won't show you the zipper. It is a hot mess because this is the first time that I've put in a zipper like this. It looks fine if you don't look closely at it and it works which is what counts. August 2, 2010 at 5:12 PM. August 2, 2010 at 6:17 PM. Andi - what a cute, flirty skirt! Where the nodding violets grow.

Untangling Knots: Thoughts: Knitting Bag
http://theandipants.blogspot.com/2010/08/thoughts-knitting-bag.html
Patterns and How Tos. Thursday, August 5, 2010. I'm getting ready to go to Seattle for the weekend and I thought I'd share the contents of the knitting bag I'm bringing with. This is my knitting bag. My Aunt Dibsy made it for me for Christmas one year. I love it and its polka dot lining. It has handy patch pockets on the inside. It's nice and sturdy and big enough to hold everything to knit a sweater and then some. Here is its current contents. A retractable measuring tape. Yarn for my current project.

Untangling Knots: Thoughts: Stitchionaries
http://theandipants.blogspot.com/2010/08/thoughts-stitchionaries.html
Patterns and How Tos. Tuesday, August 10, 2010. I'm always surprised by the number of knitters that I run into who don't have stitch treasuries. I use mine more than any of my other knitting books. I have A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns. They're quite inspiring. My book is loaded with sticky notes that have ideas jotted down for projects, notes on modifications, or rows converted to in the round. I love playing around with stitch patterns when I don't know what to knit. August 10, 2010 at 8:35 PM.

Untangling Knots: Knitting: Zzz's
http://theandipants.blogspot.com/2010/02/knitting-zzzs.html
Patterns and How Tos. Thursday, February 18, 2010. I finally got some knitting finished! I bought this yarn when I was home for Christmas to make a cowl. Last year we had a ridiculous winter and I was preparing myself for the worst. Oddly, it's been rather nice. I knit myself a cowl anyways. It's still handy when it's windy out. It's just not a necessity like last year. I adore my cowls. I'm kind of amused by the things they get called at the moment by the fashion industry. Infinity scarves? Ive never ha...
