A Philosophical Outhouse

Saturday, June 6, 2015. A Note on the Nature of Feminism. I subscribe to feminism. I would go so far as to call myself a feminist. Perhaps even a devout feminist. My mother would probably call herself a feminist as well – and well she should, as she was among the pioneering women to engage in graduate level education in the sciences, specifically the emerging field of public health, in the 1970’s and remains active in that profession today, saving the world, one pandemic scare at a time. Thursday, December 4, 2014. The Perks of the Bitterless. She wasn't bitter. She was sad, though. But it was a hopeful kind of sad. The kind of sad that just takes time.". Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Feel like. someone is sitting on my chest. Like I can't breathe. Like the weight o f the world is sl owl y collapsing right on my lun gs. It hurts. I guess some people cal l that a panic a ttack. But it doesn't feel pani cky. It comes in many different f orms ; many different appearances.

A Philosophical Outhouse: On Gratitude...

http://www.aphilosophicalouthouse.blogspot.com/2014/09/on-gratitude.html

Monday, September 22, 2014. Ah, Autumn. The time of year when shaving one's legs becomes obsolete, pumpkin everything is a delight once more, and the world watches with political fervor as countries, factions, cells try and tear each other down. (I seem to have discovered a phenomenon where by the vast majority of violence in the Northern Hemisphere begins sometime in late Spring, early Summer. Something about those months must scream: Revolution! But I am serious. My life drastically needs a change.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. And now for something completely different. Its strange how I often sit here at my desk wondering if I am achieving my purpose in life, or whether this simple life that I have decided to live into is the best thing. I live peacefully, for the most part, and yet sometimes I find myself longing for more. oomph? By Ronald S. Lauder in the New York Times. A Philosophical Outhouse: I'm Rather Pleased With Myself...

http://www.aphilosophicalouthouse.blogspot.com/2014/08/im-rather-pleased-with-myself.html

Thursday, August 14, 2014. I'm Rather Pleased With Myself. Life is a funny thing. Or rather, my. Life is a funny thing. One second I think I've got it all figured out. The next second, whatever that previous moment of clarity, it's gone. I guess that's just the nature of living, though. The fact that I hardly know what to expect in my life from one moment to the next doesn't bother me. I know what I've left behind, and that, for the most part, comforts me. You see ( reader? Or it was wrong. A girl wh...

A Philosophical Outhouse: May 2014

http://www.aphilosophicalouthouse.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 29, 2014. Life seems to be this tightrope that we walk on, forced to balance one way or the other. Although on life's tightrope, it appears to be one on which we are forced to take steps, one after another. There's no standing still on life's tightrope. I find this annoying. What that last sentence said was this: it really bothers me when someone is mean because she thinks that the other person deserves it. How will that bring peace? The cycle will just continue on and on, ad infinitum.

Two Maple Keys: Future Guilt

http://twomaplekeys.blogspot.com/2015/05/future-guilt.html

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Name it; claim it. I am going to identify this harmful habit and hopefully begin to dig it out of my life. I bought a cookbook yesterday and stopped by the grocery store to buy a few ingredients to make a frittata and a broccoli salad. As I walked from the car to my door I heard myself say, "This is the sort of thing I should do all the time. Ugh. Why am I so bad at cooking good things for myself? Future Guilt is shock...

This Fall marks the five-year anniversary of my re-start in Portland. Five years ago I started dating this lovely man named Peter. Five years ago I began teaching theater to tiny tots. Some things change; others stay the same. The Return of the Haiku! Rising like a red. Balloon, she skims the High School,. 8220;T...

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Friday, September 26, 2014. There are days when I feel that I am rocking this whole grown-up thing. Exhibit A: List O' Things. Went to the doctor for an annual physical exam and got a flu shot! Scheduled a bill payment and had a conversation with Father about investment. Put away dishes and washed other dishes. Made french toast with homemade challah bread with husband. Exhibit B: List O' Other Things. Had a solo and delicious breakfast.

Two Maple Keys: March 2014

http://twomaplekeys.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Monday, March 3, 2014. There's a physical thrill that runs through me when the moon returns. "Hello Lady." I might say. Or even, "Dear Mother, there you are! I needed this gentle nudge tonight. I am struggling to free myself from the mindset that life is a straight line. I reject that! Now, I am gathering my body to myself, patting it down and reminding it of our power. There is no more impatience, no more frustration that I let it all ...

http://twomaplekeys.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Monday, July 8, 2013. Oh hey, just kicking gender norms to the curb. What are you doing? Sunday, July 7, 2013. I didn't check my email this whole vacation week. Not once! And then this evening, standing in my kitchen, making my dinner, I started to get anxious. My mind began racing through all the things I need to make sure I'm on top of when I go back into work tomorrow. The red flashing alarm lights started going off in my head! 8220;Fema...

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Sunday, July 13, 2014. Sometimes, a little nap is all you need. All you need to remember that life is not hopeless. That all your future choices are not laid out in plain sight like cards on a table. There is still mystery. There is still a bend in the road. Oh, there's another bend in the road at their end," answered Anne lightly. "I've no idea what may be around it - I don't want to have. It's nicer not to know.". View my complete profile.

Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Sunday, January 19, 2014. I don't know why I love quotes so much! Yes, I do. It's because someone else has looked inside of me and said, here, let me put that thing into actual words rather than colors or feelings or sounds. Or it's because I read something and I have that wonderful "aha! Or "yeah, yeah! Did you know that the "yeah, yeah! Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Sunday, September 8, 2013. How would you feel if, "every time a professor says 'womankind' she means, of course, 'all humanity'? When one enrolls in a seminar on 'The Doctrine of Woman' the professor intends at least to deal with men also. When one sings of the Motherhood of God and the Sisterhood of Woman, one breathes a prayer that all men as well as women will come to experience true sisterhood.". How did she relate to God? Oh woman / remember who you are / woman / it is the whole earth. Sunday, February 2, 2014. Head up, eyes open. I've been reminded recently of how wide open my life is. There's this beautiful Clarissa quote (there's always a beautiful Clarissa quote):. I hope you will go out and let stories happen to you, and that you will work them, water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.
