Monday, October 20, 2014. Via Uni-Watch, the University of Wyoming will have a new court design. The "7220" on the court apparently is to remind visitors of the altitude of the campus. Much greater than the 5280 feet. Representing one mile). Older designs of the Wyoming court include this. Augustana College (South Dakota) will also have a new floor design. Basketball Court Designs: August 2014

Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Texas Tech Revamps Court Again; Iowa State Too. Right here in my figurative backyard, Texas Tech has redesigned its basketball floor after only four years since the previous update. You can see a nine-photo sequence of day-to-day progress in putting down the new design, at Viva The Matadors. It's neat how the huge stencils and other masking processes are used. The only major difference entailed a shift from keys that were solid red to empty keys. Monday, August 25, 2014. Back ...

Basketball Court Designs: North Carolina Comes Full Circle
http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2011/02/north-carolina-not-coming-full-circle.html
Sunday, February 20, 2011. North Carolina Comes Full Circle. This may seem like a relatively small change, but I think it makes a big difference visually. In Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina's Dean Smith Center. I like the old (top) design as it makes the NC look more, pardon the pun, "centered." (The top image comes from this YouTube video. Whereas the bottom one is from the ESPN3.com archived video of this year's Wake Forest-UNC men's game.). The fully filled-in, light-blue jump-ball circle.

Basketball Court Designs: CBS Sports Classic in Chicago
http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2014/12/cbs-sports-classic-in-chicago.html
Saturday, December 20, 2014. CBS Sports Classic in Chicago. So, CBS Sports is hosting a doubleheader at Chicago's United Center, featuring Ohio State vs. North Carolina and UCLA vs. Kentucky.Wow. I've never seen a court design like this. Note also, along the baselines, how the first "S" in "Sports" looks like it extends from the out-of-bounds area onto the in-bounds part of the court. Could make it difficult for the refs to determine if the ball is in or out of bounds in that area.

Basketball Court Designs: McArthur Court (U. Oregon): A Historical Look
http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2009/02/jeremy-brahm-e-mailed-me-with-links-to.html
Monday, February 9, 2009. McArthur Court (U. Oregon): A Historical Look. Jeremy Brahm e-mailed me with links to some old photos of the center-court and free-throw/key areas in the University of Oregon's McArthur Court. I've visited "Mac Court" myself, so I thought this was an excellent opportunity to put together a description of the court's evolution over the decades. The first photo in our sequence, provided by Jeremy, is of a 1960s-era UO men's team. Next is a picture I took myself, during a 2001 visi...

Basketball Court Designs: New Illinois Court, Murray State's Unique Keys
http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2015/01/new-illinois-court-murray-states-unique.html
Sunday, January 18, 2015. New Illinois Court, Murray State's Unique Keys. I missed this change when it was first announced, but I see from today's Indiana at Illinois game that the Fighting Illini have a new court that includes painted-in orange keys and blue lettering. A schematic of the new court is available here. The previous design, which almost entirely banished the blue, is shown here. Based on this video clip. I've created the following schematic. Basketball Court Designs: March 2015
http://bbcourts.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2015. ESPN 30-for-30 Shorts Video on Milwaukee Mecca "M" Floor. Saturday, March 14, 2015. The forces of uniformity appear to be advancing. Nearly every conference-tournament court I've seen features the conference logo at center-court.There are some small flourishes here and there, such as the American Athletic Conference's light stars against the blue keys. But not much else. Anyone noticed anything interesting? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). North Carolina Comes Full Circle.
