http://artexplorium.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Exploring ideas in Elementary Art. Thursday, July 29, 2010. 4th grade students were show how to draw a castle using basic shapes (squares, rectangles and triangles). We looked at photos of castles and brainstormed different architectural details we could include in our castles such as spires, bricks, flags, etc. Students used colored pencils to complete their drawing, creating a light source by shading their castle from light to dark. So when I came across a great deal on a kiln this past summer I had to get it! Now the kiln is installed at school! Here is the kiln. A kiln is like an oven, except it gets a lot hotter! Hot enough to take all the moisture out of clay and turn it into glass! Second grade students were the first to get their hands on creating something in clay.
