Who doesn’t love a little lagniappe? It is always nice to get (and give) a little something extra, which is the definition of lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap). Recently, I received a lagniappe from the lovely evening out at Le Petit Salon. This is enough for my husband and me to make two generous meals. Categories : New Orleans. We are lu...
How to Boil Crawfish :: A Southern Life
http://asouthernlife.com/2013/04/how-to-boil-crawfish
How to Boil Crawfish. Crawfish boils are a rite of spring in New Orleans. They combine two of our favorite activities eating good food and visiting with friends. We recently spent a picture perfect Saturday afternoon in a beautiful setting eating to our heart’s content. Here’s the star of the show. My friend Chris, a master crawfish boiler when he’s not behind his desk at an investment firm, shared his cooking secrets with me. It’s as much an art as a science, and the results are delicious! Potatoes and ...

The beautiful tulips at City Park reminded me of a table that my mother set using her “tulip dishes.” They are actually called Blue Rhapsody and they are by Mikasa. Categories : New Orleans. First up – fried oysters on the porch (shown above) with my husband’s famous french fries. Categories : New Orleans.
Southern Fun :: A Southern Life
http://asouthernlife.com/category/southern-fun
Archive for Southern Fun. Middot; Comments (2). The French Quarter Festival is the intro to New Orleans’ jam packed spring season, and of course we were there! Year, it’s the largest free music festival in the southeast. We hit the event rather late on its Saturday afternoon. With rain the day before and more predicted, a whopping 303,000 people were enjoying the beautiful day. Our strategy was to avoid the crowds by patronizing the smaller bands, and we discovered some gems. Categories : New Orleans.
Comfort Food Cook-a-Thon :: A Southern Life
http://asouthernlife.com/2013/01/comfort-food-cook-a-thon
I’ve been craving simple, home cooked food lately. I’m still paying for the eating excesses of the Christmas holidays, and the less than nutritious fare of parade parties is just around the corner. I devoted a dreary Sunday afternoon to restocking my freezer. I’m sure the gourmands are rolling their eyes right now. I’d love to cook an exquisite meal every night, but who realistically has the time? I’ll just need to boil up some pasta while I zap the sauce to serve up this meal:. 3 pounds ground chuck.

After perusing the wine list we decided on a 2011 Sandhi Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County.The wine is " a pale gold in the glass with a toasty nose and citrus hints of lime peel".
