Nomad Noyes: The road to Luangprabang
http://nomad-noyes.blogspot.com/2008/05/road-to-luangprabang.html
In search of solitude and solidarity. Saturday, May 10, 2008. The road to Luangprabang. My first day of exploring Chiang Mai started in the guest house pool as I tried to stay cool reading my guidebook and avoiding a (intoxicated? It clicked. "Oh, are you asking why I am brown? I am Native American". Are you a proper Indian? Several people behind me in the procession poured flower water on me, which smelled sweet and cooled me off. The procession entered the Wat Luang (for some reason I am drawing a ...

DeAnn in the Andes: What I have in common with Hillary Clinton
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2008/01/what-i-have-in-common-with-hillary.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Tuesday, January 8, 2008. What I have in common with Hillary Clinton. You can skip reading this post, because its super boring, UNLESS you know a phone operator at COPA Airlines or a Peruvian FedEx truck driver. Then you must read. 36 minutes of phone calls with them and I have not been able to get any of those things, or an earlier flight. Sigh. But not very interesting to the reader. You know what IS interesting, though? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

DeAnn in the Andes: Lake Titicaca (let out the giggle)
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2008/01/lake-titicaca-let-out-giggle.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Monday, January 7, 2008. Lake Titicaca (let out the giggle). The Incan Gruge, er I mean the rainy season, continued during our exodus from Cusco and the Sacred Valley to our next adventures in Lake Titicaca. Lots of water: a pretty amazing giant lake to go with all the rain. And at a higher elevation than Cusco! But we got a knock on our door at 6:50 that the bus to take us on our lake tour was already at our hostal to pick us up! We visited the islands of Uros. Having not done our Fo...

DeAnn in the Andes: Lost my pants, but not my pride
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2008/01/lost-my-pants-but-not-my-pride.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Thursday, January 10, 2008. Lost my pants, but not my pride. I am feeling much better today for several reasons. Thank you so much to friends who have sent me thoughts of encouragement or empathy for my travel woes and whining about health and weather. Your positive energy has granted me a great day! And the Bostonians wished me luck on my mad dash to find and conquer my wandering ATM card in the 3 hour layover I had before my flight to Ecuador. January 18, 2008 at 1:24 PM.

DeAnn in the Andes: There's no place like home
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2008/01/theres-no-place-like-home.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Wednesday, January 23, 2008. There's no place like home. Clicked my heels, and 4 flights (and 1 crying, fidgety, touchy baby) later, I am back to my true home: San Jose, California. Which was good for me to clarify at the LA airport this morning so my luggage did not go to Costa Rica. Lots of time in airports and planes over the past 30 hours! For now, I am going to recoup some energy and spend time being spoiled by my family here before heading back up to Seattle early next week.

DeAnn in the Andes: An Ode to the ENSALADA DE FRUTAS
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2008/01/ode-to-ensalada-de-frutas.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Friday, January 11, 2008. An Ode to the ENSALADA DE FRUTAS. The accessibility of cheap, quality, delicious fresh fruits in South America is wonderful. I will miss having fresh fruits from the. Juice - and really just juice, nothing added) or. Ensaladas de frutas (. Fruit salads) as a daily practice, once resuming poverty status in the USA. And Ecuador wins for Best. Mango and strawberry and vanilla yogurt! Pumpkin and brown sugar donut. Mmmm. Even 1/22 is pretty soon! Better to have l...

DeAnn in the Andes: December 2007
http://deanndes.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
DeAnn in the Andes. Saturday, December 29, 2007. The Incan Grudge Against Me. I am not sure what I have done to an Incan in a past life, but their spirits do not like me in the present. Knowing that I despise cold and dislike rain, the Incan gods have brought both in full form - PLUS with a bipolaresque teasing of glorious sun - each day we have been in Cusco. We sought relief from the weather by gorging in a cool restaurant (though no go with the hummus to satisfy my craving, as it kind of tasted like &...

DeAnn in the Andes. Sunday, January 20, 2008. So, I did do the Peru. And here are the photos to Peru-ve it. Finally posted (a characteristically overproflicitude of) pictures from Christmas through the first part of January. Allow me to present some more highlights before you find enough time in your busy, Real World life to let the photos and captions relay some of my fortunate life in the past weeks. In Cusco: http:/ picasaweb.google.com/dcromp/NewYearsEve. And bathrooms must be sacred, too, because th...
