Oh Well ...
http://ecojoe.blogspot.com/2009/05/sunset-at-home-farm-i-set-my-chair-on.html
Saturday, May 30, 2009. Sunset at Home Farm. I SET MY CHAIR on the corner of my cottage flat, sit and sip at my final cup of tea of the day. The last of the dog walkers are making their way back to the car park at the visitor centre and heading for home. As the sun slowly sizzles into Campbeltown Loch, an incandescent glow radiates from clouds high in the troposphere – a cooling breeze whispers through the budding branches of the trees – birds coorie deeper into their nests. R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). 2 Billion for Campaigning May Sound Like a Lot But It's a Trivial Sum. I recently heard that Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton will probably spend a billion each for their presidential campaigns. This seemed to the commentator further proof that our campaigning is spiraling out of control. I think it shows good judgement. In total GDP. That works out to a per capita difference of about $23,000 during first term. Links to this post. Rudolf Diesel, inventor of the Diesel engine.

R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). Why Corporations Could Get Higher Returns Than VCs. Daniel Kahneman is the only psychology professor to have won a Nobel Prize in Economics. His studies with Adam Tversky on how people value things is one of the reasons. They suggest something counter-intuitive about risk. Just to be clear on this oddly paradoxical approach to risk, here are the scenarios. Research suggests that the average person will not pay more than $200 for the premium pill. These differences in ho...

R World: Ted Cruz Knows Precisely When Life Begins (And You're Either a Religious Zealot or Murderer if You Disagree)

R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). Ted Cruz Knows Precisely When Life Begins (And You're Either a Religious Zealot or Murderer if You Disagree). The problem with anti-abortion policies is simple. Folks like Ted Cruz believe that anyone who would outlaw contraceptives is a religious zealot and anyone who would opt to terminate a pregnancy the instant after conception is a murderer. R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). Why You Should Be Blown Away by Median Wage Growth of 2.1%. Wages rose 2.1%. Year over year through June 2014. That's been met with a yawn but it is a phenomenal number. Wages every 33 years. Sustained, a wage growth of 2.1% increases wages by 8X in a century, enough to raise the median wage of $32,154 in 2000 to $256,927 by 2100. Does that sound outlandish? Ticket to a movie. Airplane ticket. To anywhere. Video conference. With anyone. From anywhere. Links to this post.

R World: Nothing is More Dangerous than Bored Americans
http://rwrld.blogspot.com/2015/08/nothing-is-more-dangerous-than-bored.html
R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). Nothing is More Dangerous than Bored Americans. There is a price we pay for living in an information age. With access to unlimited music, movies, tweets, essays, cat videos, and opinions, nobody wants to be bored. Americans will go to great lengths to avoid boredom. They will, for instance, elect bombastic fools to office just to mix things up. What did Americans do last time the American economy performed spectacularly, in the late 1990s? Last century's Information Eco...

R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). The Religious Right - Those Christians Who Understand Christianity Better Than Christ. I have as much authority as the pope, only fewer people believe it.". 83% of Americans claim to be Christian. If you have a proposal you want supported, it is a great idea to tell people that what you're advocating is Christian. Given that 83% of Americans have not read the Bible, this gives you great liberty. Arguments for not having a welfare state. As it turns out, the less fin...

R World: Jeb's Bold (But Vague) Plan for 4% GDP Growth (which we can only hope isn't the same one he had for Florida)

R World (Ron Davison muses aloud). Jeb's Bold (But Vague) Plan for 4% GDP Growth (which we can only hope isn't the same one he had for Florida). Jeb Bush is promsing 4% GDP growth. That would put him in the company of presidents FDR, LBJ, Reagan, and Clinton. So what remarkable thing did Jeb do in Florida to hit 4% growth? George Packard, in The Unwinding. Captures the dynamic of growth through real estate speculation in Tampa, Florida during Jeb's time as governor. Packard writes that, "auto insurance w...
