Yes, it seems our badgers have been discovered by a wild badger. Sometime in the last few days a. AND there is a latrine in the middle of Edgewood Road (the path along the side of the wood), about 1/3 of the way between Róisín and Benji's sett! Badger motel: field side. Badger motel: wood side. A badger latrine in the middle of the path. This is a territorial marker: a declaration to Róisín and Benji that they have neighbours whose territory starts here. Benji at a guess - he's a bit of a dawdler.

A wet night, cold but not freezing. No sign of any visitor in our neck of the woods. Take a look at the first five seconds of the video below. The badger nearest the camera looks bigger to me. My imagination? A reflection of Róisín's appetite. A wet badger and a drier one. In the remainder of the video - another clip for comparison, same animals, same place, same time, more or less - they don't look so different. Two home from the woods at 2:56. The badgers were given two dishes of food again, placed some distance apart. The last of the frozen quail was divided between them - to ensure, if possible, that Benji got a look-in. The badgers were last recorded above ground at 04:02. New: a hole between the existing sett entrances, looking into the end of a tunnel. Christmas dinner number 2. Róisín does a runner again? No videos and just three photos at the sett overnight: one of the badgers near the dish of food (not finished) between 4:11 and 4:19. It was a windy night and quite cold. They may have stayed in much of the night. Two more overhead photos of the motelier at his latrine at 1:50 and 4:03, heading away from and toward his new digs, respectively. I had a camera on the rear entrance of the motel for the last couple of nights but he didn't use it. When I removed it today the place stunk of fox.
