Beeginning Beekeeper: February 2012

http://beeginningbeekeeper.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Today it got to about 36 degrees so D.J. and I went for a walk. After we got home I went out and checked on the bee hives. They were pretty active so I took some pictures. Sam and a few heifers. A few heifers around the water tank. The whitish one is mine. Sam and the heifers again. Sam and the steers. They were actually chasing Sam. The bees. No kidding right? Our cat, Curious, found the bees very interesting. He ended up getting stung later on. Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Beeginning Beekeeper: March 2012

http://beeginningbeekeeper.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 31, 2012. Two days ago(29th) I received my Mann lake order. I ordered 20lbs of Bee Pro(Pollen substitute), yellow marking pen(years ending with 2 and 7), white marking pen( 1 and 6), and a bee jacket. I also got a box of entrance disks(For my nucs) from Brushy Mountain. I guess I'll get to my inspection. After finishing up with H4 I moved onto H3. When we opened up H3 we were greeted by a full hive body of bees! This hive is BOOMING; I think I'm going to split it this spring. H1 was reall...

Beeginning Beekeeper: April 2012

http://beeginningbeekeeper.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 9, 2012. A little while ago D.J. came down and somehow had managed to fix the camera using the information from something he found on the internet. :) Hopefully it will stay fixed. Right now my memory card is full though so I need to clear the images off of it. Sunday, April 8, 2012. As the title suggests I will probably be posting very few pictures if any because our primary camera has cratered. Until we get it repaired or get a new camera I probably won't be posting much for pictures.

Wings on the Ranch: April 2013

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 20, 2013. I thought I better give an update since my last post was in early March. We've had quite a bit of snow since then. It normally melts off before we get more though. The temperatures have been below normal recently. About a week ago, we had a snowstorm drop about a foot of snow. Here is a picture of Blue Mountain covered in snow. The snow was still pretty deep then. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Jessi L. Roberts, author. Power of Words Tag.

Wings on the Ranch: April 2012

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. We started calving about a week ago and quite a few cows have already calved. It started raining Thursday night and by Sunday, we had gotten 1.2 inches of rain which we are extremely thankful for. This is a picture I took of our cows after we moved them about a week ago. And a picture of our steers that was taken at almost the same time. They seem to be enjoying the river. Wednesday, April 18, 2012. You can see where the ground just gave way. And that is how it is done. Here is a ...

Wings on the Ranch: August 13th Storm

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2013/08/august-13th-storm.html

Friday, August 16, 2013. The storm rolling in. It was raining the hardest I have ever seen. Right after it quit raining. These were taken at least an hour after it quit raining. The day after the storm came through, Danny and I went out to fix the fences in the creeks and found this. There was trash piled up in what was left of the fence. It took us most of the afternoon to fix it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Jessi L. Roberts, author. Power of Words Tag.

Wings on the Ranch: May 2012

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 26, 2012. We have been continuing to work the colts when we have time. I started this post a few days ago, but never got around to finishing it. Here is Dad sacking out Stormy. Here is Stormy's first ride. Stormy did well. He really moved out. He did try bucking though. Outlaw was a little confused. Notice the hat. I have a cool sequence with pictures that came before and after. I might edit this post to add them. Pistol is doing well too. A picture of some of our cows and calves. We saddle...

Monday, May 11, 2015. Jessi here. As you've noticed, this blog is pretty dead, and it will likely stay that way. However, I have started my own blog for writing related things, and I'm trying to update it weekly. This week, I decided to do an update about the ranch on my blog. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wings on the Ranch: Summer 2013

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2013/08/summer-2013.html

Friday, August 23, 2013. Well, we've had quite a summer. It was really dry until mid-May then the weather changed. We got 8 inches of rain in 12 days and then a few more inches in June. It made for a lot of grass and hay. We finished haying for the year today with 2,601 bales this year. Here is a wall of pictures with captions. A thunderhead forming as we were getting ready to go to branding. Most of the crew. Riding at a branding. The grass was unbelievable. A picture of the mountain. Power of Words Tag.

Friday, September 14, 2012. Fiber Optics, Fires, and More. Here they are plowing in the line. Where the fire burned. Luckily there wasn't much wind. You can see our haystack and our house in this picture. We finally got around to hauling our portable panels home from the mountain. We didn't want to make two trips so we were able to carry 30 at once. With pictures I took. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Jessi L. Roberts, author. Power of Words Tag. Wings on the Ranch: February 2013

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 24, 2013. The weather has been pretty good recently. We will get a few cold days, but it never seems to last too long. We don't have much snow, but there is some ice. I guess there isn't a lot to post. Last week Mom took some pictures of us feeding the cattle so I guess I'll put them up. On bales with a lot of leaves, like this third-cutting alfalfa, sometimes we have to pitch some of it off, or it will fall apart in a pile when we try to unroll it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wings on the Ranch: July 2012

http://wingsontheranch.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Last night a thunderstorm came through. Fortunately, we got about 3/10th of rain which was enough to put out any fires the lightning started. I took these pictures with a fifteen second exposure with the camera on a tripod. I saved the best for last. This one started a fire about a mile and a half away, but it went out when the rain hit. Notice how it lit up the hill. Monday, July 23, 2012. I decided to take the best pictures from brandings this spring, and put them in one post.

A Journey into the world of Beekeeping. December 28, 2016. That the queen is dead or gone. That the youngest bees were already a few weeks old. That it would take several more weeks before I could get fresh brood to hatch. No chance of quickly recovering it, without a spare queen and frames of brood. The orange hive is no more. You win some, you lose some. At least I didn’t let it get so weak that it was robbed out. Thankfully, poor Rogue One only lasted for a few days, before going to that happy little ...
