rojak rendezvous: May 2011
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Monday, May 30, 2011. Would you think this is Singapore? Inspired by my BFF who goes walking every chance she gets, my current fav pastime is to explore the various trails. All you have to do is to go to the National Parks website and browse. The first trail we did was the Southern Ridges. It has been one that I've been meaning to go for a long time so I was really excited when we finally did so much so I pressed on even tho it was drizzling. A very pleasant way to start. It's ...

rojak rendezvous: Off the Beaten Track (not quite)
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2012/03/off-beaten-track-not-really.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Saturday, March 17, 2012. Off the Beaten Track (not quite). We're quite an outdoorsy kind of family, if you have not figured out by now. When we have nothing planned for the weekend (ie. shows or activities), we would almost always go walking, cycling, rollerblading or have a picnic at the parks. A quick 10-15 min ride gets you to the island. Right after you walk out of the jetty, you will feel like you have stepped back in time. Balik Kampung. Nothing is a rush here. It wasn't...

rojak rendezvous: November 2011
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Monday, November 7, 2011. A taste of middle eastern. Admittedly I don't know Middle Eastern cuisine well but X is a big fan. So when we found ourselves wondering around RWS looking for a place to eat, he was immediately drawn to Anar. The belly dancing, I'm sure helped pique his interest too but unfortunately we were too early. I believe it starts from 8pm. Once inside, you feel immediately transported into the movie set of the Arabian Nights. Hummus with minced beef. I must ha...

rojak rendezvous: A walk through Coffee Hill
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-walk-through-coffee-hill.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Saturday, September 29, 2012. A walk through Coffee Hill. Bukit Brown Cemetary with 100,000 graves is the largest Chinese burial site outside of China. Growing up in Singapore, I've never heard of it until this whole controversy about building a highway over it and the need to exhume 4000 graves. Since my parents are from China, none of our ancestors are buried there, I suppose. This is truly a hidden gem in Singapore. This is where the highway will run through. The number sign...

rojak rendezvous: Performing for Ghosts
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2012/10/performing-for-ghosts.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Sunday, October 14, 2012. Hungry Ghost month came and went. I don't miss the ashes flying about or watching out where I walk in case I trip over some offering. But I do look forward to the performances. Typically you either get the Getai, which I'd talked about here. Or the Chinese Opera. There were several going on in my neighborhood throughout the month. I asked around and made sure we went for one of the Opera Performances. Not quite your Orchestra band. By pledging your blo...

rojak rendezvous: December 2011
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Thursday, December 29, 2011. It doesn't seem right but I'm posting it anyway. I drafted this in December and only just realised I had not posted it. A few months late. Wrapping paper for her Christmas present to me. Links to this post. Monday, December 26, 2011. Experience a moving masterpiece. I'm embarrassed to admit that I have not heard of what is otherwise known as the Mona Lisa of China - the legendary Qing Ming Shang He Tu. Shame on me especially since I can rattle o...

Rojak = melange = mixture. Thursday, June 30, 2011. Art Garden @ SAM. The huge bunny who decided to lie down in front of SAM. The Art Garden on till end of August. An entire gallery completely covered with train tracks,. Even on the walls. Filled with lots of papier mache animals and figures. Make your own paper fruits. Choose from 6 different designs with different degree of difficulty. It's a lot harder than it looks. All it requires is a little bit of patience. Take your time with it. Such a happy wall.

rojak rendezvous: July 2011
http://rojakrendezvous.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Rojak = melange = mixture. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Summer is a state of mind. This may seem a strange thing to say given that I live in Singapore where it's summer all year round. Let me explain. Summer is not just about the weather. Sure we look forward to the warmer temperatures after a long cold winter, wearing summer dresses and open toe sandals after having to be covered up for months. I need to re-create that summer feeling here in Singapore. Links to this post. Monday, July 18, 2011. The Stadium ...
