The first six weeks of practising in my home community have been much like starting any new position: getting to know local community and practice standards, the normal who-does-what-when practice expectations, the wonderful clients of course- and marrying it all with the rest of my life. My kids have started saying to me, rather plaintively, "Are you on call tonight, Mama? What that means is, "Will you be here when we wake up? Labels: callings vs. careers. I love my job.

Tripping along the birthingway. They like me, they really like me! I got unofficial word today from the Alberta registrar: I qualify for midwifery registration in that province. They'll send me the paperwork next week. As much as working outside of BC isn't a savoury prospect, I am incredibly relieved that I'll be able to work somewhere, anywhere, at this point.
