an·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive: Gaudete! (3rd Week of Advent)

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Monday, December 16, 2013. 3rd Week of Advent). So my grand plan to do a completed piece every day during Advent has quickly fallen apart. What with holiday parties, Christmas shopping, the usual laundry and errands, plus the rapid temperature drop in the evenings, it's often difficult to set myself down for a solid block of time and create art. Drawing with stiff, cold hands can get frustrating! Gaudete translates as "Rejoice! I found that my ideas grow with t...

an·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive: Happy Advent!

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Wednesday, December 04, 2013. I love Advent calendars. There's something so fun about opening up a little window each day to see what surprise is inside. I'm a couple days late, but this year I'm thinking of doing a little sketch Advent calendar and see what happens. So here's your first surprise! My snowman's head came out a little lopsided so I added a little chickadee friend for her. :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Sunday, June 16, 2013. Thought I'd try something a little different for this year's Father's Day card - a blend of traditional mixed media and Photoshop detailing. Overall I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, and considering it was a pretty rushed job, I think I can do much better next time I go this route. Making proper armatures, for one thing. The littlest fox kept tipping over backwards. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Tuesday, July 17, 2012. 30-Day Drawing Challenge: Day 8. Day 8 is "favorite animated character." I could rattle off my top 20 list easily, but in terms of which character had the most profound influence on me as a budding animator, I'd have to go with Timon. Sadly I'm still not at that level of skill necessary to keep characters on model, do turnarounds, come up with appealing poses, draw from imagination, etc. etc. Thursday, July 12, 2012. An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Sunday, December 02, 2012. A rather involved birthday present. My mom turned 60 this year and I spent the better part of 2 months on a gift for her that I'd had in mind for a while. A long time ago she wrote a children's story and I've wanted to illustrate it. So what better incentive to get off my lazy butt and draw? To simulate pencil/pastel in the final color pass. Why not just use actual. Colored pencils/pastels, you may ask? Rather than spending a lot of m...

an·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive: September 2012

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Monday, September 24, 2012. Here's a good one to start:. There's a lot going on in such a deceptively simple gesture, but breaking it down helps me understand how and a bit of why it works. Unfortunately it also kind of makes it less funny, which I find troublesome. What if I need to animate a funny scene? If I break stuff down to the point that I no longer find it humorous, how will I know whether it's working or not? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Saturday, November 16, 2013. Oh hey, I have a blog or something! Let's update it, shall we? Mostly just been doing work stuff at Sony, which I can't really talk about because NDA and all that fun stuff. But back in August I had some free time, so I entered the 11 Second Club again to see if I'd improved since the last time (man, it would be sad if I hadn't gotten any better, wouldn't it? Good news, I've improved! I managed to earn first place. I couldn't convin...

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Monday, December 09, 2013. I didn't get a chance to do a painting for December 7th, since Tommy and I had tickets to see Miyazaki's last film, "The Wind Rises," immediately prior to a friend's holiday party, which lasted until the wee hours! The Wind Rises was amazing, as usual, but definitely a less light-hearted affair than some of his other films like Ponyo or Totoro. It was simply breathtaking getting to see some of his original paintings up close. My anima...

An·i·ma·tion (n.) The state of being alive. Thursday, December 12, 2013. I spent this evening watching Stephen Berry's Youtube series and reading his posts on the AR forum. This lesson was particularly inspiring for me:. I then spent some time trying out his various techniques on a test canvas. Here are the intriguing results, quickly modified by adding different watercolor texture overlays:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Animator by day, and. animator by night too.
