Book Reviews by Himanshu Das

Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. Saturday, March 10, 2007. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams. Or H2G2, as I and a few of my friends like to call it. What do you say about a book which tells you that to learn how to fly, all you need to do is throw yourself at the ground and miss? Or introduces you to a planet where the leading life form is ball-point pens? The first I heard of H2G2 was - "What do you mean, you have not read HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Have you lived or what? There ar...

Book Reviews by Himanshu Das: Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown)

http://www.bookreviewsbyhimanshu.blogspot.com/2006/11/da-vinci-code-dan-brown.html

Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. Wednesday, November 08, 2006. Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown). Every once in a while, there comes a book which rises beyond some black marks on bound rectangular pieces of paper and becomes a phenomenon. The popularity charts have to be redesigned to calibrate the way the book catches popular imagination. Often, this popularity wave is based on real talent and brilliant story-telling; at times on sheer "catching the right public mood at the right time". Rating Guide - Y. One point...

Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. Tuesday, February 06, 2007. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night-time - Mark Haddon. The most enjoyable of the lot! I can describe the plot and characters here, but all that is meaningless. You can always google for all that. My recommendation is to read the book. It is sure to bring to your lips one of those smiles that comes from pure enjoyment. Posted by Himanshu Das @ 10:35 pm. Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. View my complete profile. Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. Thursday, September 28, 2006. Leave it to Psmith - P G Wodehouse. What better to start this blog by writing a review for one of my all time favourite books by one of my all time favourite authors. And if you thin all I have said above is senseless words, I would agree. Go read the book, I can't write as well as Wodehouse. And I didn't want to talk about the plot. Recommendation - GO read it. Book Reviews by Himanshu Das: Angels and Demons (Dan Brown)

http://www.bookreviewsbyhimanshu.blogspot.com/2006/11/angels-and-demons-dan-brown.html

Book Reviews by Himanshu Das. Monday, November 06, 2006. Angels and Demons (Dan Brown). Suppose I am writing a thriller. What should be my choice for the profession of the hero? A real, practising, middle-aged Harvard professor; not an ex-CIA agent passing time as a professor? What about the heroine? What kind of a story is this turning to be? Both the main characters are nerds. What else can I do to completely ruin my story? Yes, I have achieved the perfect recipe for a disastrous novel. Book Reviews by...

Madhu and Himanshu's Travels. Thursday, April 24, 2008. Celebrating Fifth Wedding Anniversary at Paris (17-Apr-2008). Madhu here. My dear husband has included my name in this blog of his, so I thought I'll contribute to it for a change. Here's an account of our recent trip to Paris to celebrate our fifth anniversary. Still a lot of daylight left, so we walk along Siene to absorb some Paris atmosphere. So we reach a building and I ask Himanshu, "What is this? Is this a museum or a palace? We walk through ...

To mark the occasion of the fifth anniversary of our honeymoon (in case you are prompted to search this blog for a travelogue for our honeymoon, let me tell you, it isn't here. Madhu and Himanshu's Travels. Wednesday, October 18, 2006. Vilayat Mein Padhai (A Trip to Cambridge, UK, 16-Sep-2006). So here we were, visiting one of the top two seats of learning in UK (the other being Oxford), and certainly one of the topmost in the world. Cambridge was formed by scholars who has escaped from Oxford because of some issues (don’t remember what) in 15-16th century. All those ". Hamara beta vilayat mein padhke aaya hai. Madhu and Himanshu's Travels. Thursday, April 24, 2008. Hiranya's first India Trip (23Feb08-25Mar08). Shocking, given that I have never bottle-fed and first-time air-travel is not really a time to change basic feeding methods for an infant. Can't be helped though! We hurry to catch our 5 o'clock taxi to the airport. But I somehow manage. We hog the baby changing area for at least an hour. At 9:30 am on 23rd Feb 2008, I board an aeroplane for the first time. Our first destination is Mumbai, India. We visi...

Madhu and Himanshu's Travels. Sunday, June 22, 2008. What do you think of when you think of Italy? Rome, the historic city containing Vatican? Or the seductive, enchanting Capri? The wonderful leaning tower of Pisa, anyone? This tour was once again with Star Tours, London. Tuesday, 10 Jun 2008 - Travel. So I was wrong after all about Italian crime not being on the itinerary ;-). We must give credit to the tour manager that he did not let this affect the tour. Wednesday, 11 Jun 2008 - Capri. Madhu and Himanshu's Travels. Friday, May 30, 2008. Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath. There are a lot of interesting things about UK, one of them is that holidays here don't have names. They just call them Bank holidays. There is early May bank holiday, then late May bank holiday, then August Bank holiday and so on. Further, all these holidays are on Mondays to enable a long weekends. Convenient! There is something about long weekends, though! David really made the tour fun. Incoming Guards - Here they are.

Movie Reviews by Himanshu Das: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (English, 2007)

http://moviereviewsbyhimanshu.blogspot.com/2007/05/pirates-of-caribbean-at-worlds-end.html

Movie Reviews by Himanshu Das. Saturday, May 26, 2007. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (English, 2007). Disgusting waste of time. With absolutely no indication of a main plot, the film keeps on jumping between various senseless sub-plots and entirely wastes the talents of a superb cast. This movie has scared me about sequels. Hollywood, some originality please. Recommendation - Avoid it, unless of course you owe a debt to Davy Jones or Jack Sparrow or any other stupid character in the movie.

book reviews by jeremy

Book reviews by jeremy. June 6, 2012. As I mentioned, it took me a little while to get into this book. It jumps around quite a bit in terms of timeline, character narration, story line, etc. I think the author intends that, but it's hard to start a book being confused for the first quarter of it. There are quite a few characters to keep track of, and sometimes you don't quite know who is who. Other Books by Morgenstern. This is her first, but she's working on another. Links to this post.
