On this page you see a few pictures of the inside of boosters that have nice original plating still intact. There has been much discussion over the years about what boosters looked like when new. Many “experts” claim that they were never shiny or that they were not zinc dichromate like you see on the faces on this page. These photos speak for themselves. Since the introduction of Chinese built reproduction brake boosters, there has been endless debate about whether to restore your original or buy one of the millions of reproductions offered to restorers of GM Muscle cars. Common complaints heard about the reproduction boosters are that they are easy to spot on your beautifully restored GM car. The thing to do is to have full engine vacuum at the booster, about 18 of vacuum. Any less then that you have in a vacuum can give a problem. Do some tests and inspections. With the car engine is running, apply brake pedal several times and check operation of pedal. If response is sluggish, then check the condition of vacuum hoses and booster unit air filter.
