I should be on first name terms with the staff, considering they know exactly what I drink. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. You are commenting ...

So my friend runs this blog about brewing his own beer and mead and stuff. It’s really interesting and I was mad interested in giving it a go. So I found a recipe over at stormthecastle.com, which was a cheap and cheerful recipe for mead that allowed idiots such as myself to garner the basics of a mead. The mead ...

One idiot's guide to homebrewing. Thanks for dropping by The Brew Book! Take a look around and grab the RSS feed. To stay updated. See you around! Mdash; 1 Comment. It’s been a year, almost to the day, since my last beer brew. So today I began work on a Chocolate Stout. 17kg Cooper’s Stout malt extract. 250g Cadbury’s Bournville Cocoa Powder. Added malt extract, spraymalt, sugar, and cocoa to the fermenter. Added cold water to the fermenter to bring it up to 23 litres. 30 October 2010 at 8:28 pm. I start...

So fetch yourself a bottle of your favourite tipple and enjoy. For this one, I chose Innis and Gunn. Now, get two pots – one of them should be big enough to take 3...

I’ve been talking about using jam to brew for long enough. So today I did it. Similar to the mead recipes, this uses a couple of jars of strawberry jam. I hope it will taste nyom. It was really quick to make too. Just heated up everything to melt it, added ingredients, and pitched the yeast. Simples! 5 litres of Crystal Springs Stillwater.

Greenhouse, raised bed, and planting! | The Grow Book
https://growbook.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/greenhouse-raised-bed-and-planting
Greenhouse, raised bed, and planting! March 21, 2010, 12:58 pm. My new greenhouse is going well so far. I have a load of herbs planted (thyme is now sprouting), and my radishes are almost ready to be transplanted to a bed. I’ve just finished my raised bed, and I’m going to fill it with compost and probably some soil from the garden. Planted peas and gherkins, too. Probably a bit early but let’s see what happens…. Warm weather! | The Grow Book
https://growbook.wordpress.com/2010/04/10/warm-weather
April 10, 2010, 3:17 pm. Looks like the worst of the cold weather has passed, and I don’t expect any more ice to appear. Yay! And along with the warm weather, my stuff has started to really grow quickly. I planted out some garlic last weekend, and it’s shooting nicely. The onions don’t seem to know what’s hit them and can’t get enough of the sun. Radish leaves are getting very big, and might need to be transplanted out to a raised bed soon. This is going to be a good summer G:). Leave a Comment so far.

March 28, 2010, 3:56 pm. My greenhouse is working out very well so far! I’ve checked the propagator and sprouting so far are: leeks, tomatoes, cayenne chillies. The radishes are doing exceptionally well so I transplanted them into six individual plants (I’ll move them to a raised bed with cloches once they have a couple more leaves). Continue reading →. April 10, 2010, 2:45 pm. A friend recommended trying the paper towel method for germinating chilli seeds. I had already successfully germinated chilli seeds in compost in the greenhouse already (4 seeds out of 6), so I was interested in seeing how this method fared. Lo and behold, after about a week, 14 out of the 16 seeds had sprouted tap roots. Success! I have just transplanted them into a small propagator with compost, so we’ll see how they develop.
