Brunch DC: Tabard Inn
http://brunchdc.blogspot.com/2008/11/tabard-inn.html
Yes, you can occasionally get good brunch in D.C. Friday, November 7, 2008. There are a lot of great dishes at the Tabard Inn but they are best known for their homemade donuts, which are warm, cakey, and delicious, if a little too sugary, and come with a side of homemade vanilla whipped cream. At $1.50 a piece, no Tabard Inn brunch is complete without a few donuts for the table. Tabard Inn has an extensive seasonal menu. Being from New York, I had to try the smoked fish plate, which comes w. The savory t...
Brunch DC: Beyond the Beltway: Essex
http://brunchdc.blogspot.com/2008/08/outside-beltway-essex.html
Yes, you can occasionally get good brunch in D.C. Monday, August 11, 2008. Beyond the Beltway: Essex. Essex, set in an austere lofty space on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, is a New York culinary institution specializing in "drunk brunch" - a $16 prix fixe meal. NB It is now $18] that includes three bloody marys, mimosas, or screwdrivers. While many New York brunch spots serve prix fixe brunch that include drinks - why won't that phenomenon arrive in D.C? A bialy, for those. Is a traditional Eastern E...
Brunch DC: Cashion's Eat Place
http://brunchdc.blogspot.com/2009/08/cashions-eat-place.html
Yes, you can occasionally get good brunch in D.C. Monday, August 3, 2009. Ashion's Eat Place, while no longer affiliated with James Beard winning chef/owner Ann Cashion, makes a good case for being the best restaurant in Adams Morgan. The brunch features inventive New American dishes that are a few steps above the other restaurants in the area without being more expensive. The food along with its casually elegant setting make it a must-visit Adams Morgan brunch location. Another highlight is the pork has...
Brunch DC: Montmartre

Yes, you can occasionally get good brunch in D.C. Friday, June 26, 2009. It behooves the loyal Washingtonian to check out Eastern Market, which is finally reopened recently. After the Fire of 2007 destroyed. The landmark. Naturally there are sundry brunch locations in the area, including my favorite spot Montmartre. Montmartre could improve their drinks. I observed their bartender mixing their bloody mary with a store-bought (Tabasco brand) mix (Quelle horreur! One point of confusion though: There are no...

The blog of eating, drinking and living cheap in the District. September 17, 2008. On the taste front, I guess there was nothing particularly wrong with Kanlaya. Often I judge restaurants like this by their vegetarian menus. It isn’t that hard to pump out chicken pad thai, or pad see yew, or any number of other meat dishes (of course, really good meat entrees aren’t that easy). But is the vegetarian food anything more than sad bits of fried tofu with veggies and sauce? The final verdict: the food was fin...

The blog of eating, drinking and living cheap in the District. Back from Virginia, and Blogging Up a Storm. Blogs and Recipes: A Round-Up for 9/2 →. August 28, 2008. Yes, people, the state that brought us Larry Craig’s bathroom shenanigans and Bill Sali’s independent discovery oil alternative fuels in our forests. Also gave me pearl couscous in the bulk food aisle of my local supermarket, something DC’s Whole Foods, Yes Organics and Safeway/Giant pu pu platter haven’t provided. 2 Tbs Olive oil. 1 Put the...
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: A belated happy Thanksgiving
http://dcfoodjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/11/belated-happy-thanksgiving.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. A belated happy Thanksgiving. It is pretty sad when you have a food blog, but no Thanksgiving post. I'm not sure a belated Thanksgiving post has the same luster and excitement as a pre-holiday blog, but it's worth a shot. This year, inspired by. One family's pie-to-person ratio. In a travel dish and headed to my extended family's Thanskgiving dinner. Though we didn't have more pies than people, we came close enough. Along with the pie, I made a quick, easy and delicious.
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: October 2011

Wednesday, October 12, 2011. At the beginning of the summer I. Vowed to try new bourbon recipes from my Kentucky Bourbon Cookbook. Admittedly, this resolution has gotten off to a slow start. To date, I have only made two recipes -. Pan-Seared Salmon with Chipotle Lime Bourbon Glaze. Fortunately last weekend I got back on track with Bourbon Brownies. The recipe required some ingenuity - like devising my own double boiler. Not as attractive as a Dutch oven, but it does the trick. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: Happy Holidays!
http://dcfoodjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/12/happy-holidays.html
Tuesday, December 27, 2011. For me the holidays are synonymous with baking. It just doesn't feel like Christmas until every surface in my house is covered with a baked good. This year, over the course of one week, I made an assortment of six different baked goods:. It's not a holiday until bourbon is involved. This recipe was far more successful than my previous. Classic Rice Krispy Treats. Perfect recipe if you're pressed for time. I'd forgotten how good homemade rice krispies are. The website h...Subsc...
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: Christmas Desserts: The Odyssey Continues

Monday, December 21, 2009. Christmas Desserts: The Odyssey Continues. Things got progressively better, but they still did not resemble the perfect candies my grandma made or the pictures in recipe books. They looked more like a chocolate Jabba the Hut, encasing everything in sight with chocolate:. I had nightmares of the bourbon ball eating everything in its path until it started to take over DC and moved up the coast. For your reference, here is how I modified the original recipe. Bourbon to taste (at l...
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: February 2012

Sunday, February 5, 2012. My family isn't competitive at all. Really. A few weeks ago, I visited one of my favorite cousins, Semra. We have a lot in common, but the most obvious similarities are our love of baking and our competitive spirit. When it comes to baking, we have different personalities. I focus on taste and follow all the rules, but struggle in the presentation arena. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack. Food Confessions of a Cupcake Addict.
DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: Cooking with Bourbon: Pan-Seared Salmon with Chipotle Honey-Lime Bourbon Glaze
http://dcfoodjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/07/cooking-with-bourbon-pan-seared-salmon.html
Monday, July 18, 2011. Cooking with Bourbon: Pan-Seared Salmon with Chipotle Honey-Lime Bourbon Glaze. Is as good as it sounds. It may be the best thing I've ever cooked (which obviously means it's an easy recipe). The glaze is a great spicy and sweet combination that complements the flavor of the salmon. It's perfect over white rice. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack. Food Confessions of a Cupcake Addict. Cupcake Bakeshop by Chockylit. DC Food Junkie: Cupcakes are My Crack: New year, new muffins
http://dcfoodjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-year-new-muffins.html
Thursday, January 19, 2012. New year, new muffins. In the spirit of New Year's Resolutions, I recently decided to make healthy muffins for the office. I found some intriguing recipes in the New York Times and tried my luck. Muffins were my favorite. Both muffins were very low in sugar, but the spices in the carrot cake provided enough flavor that I didn't miss the sugar. Plus they were more photogenic. The steel-cut oatmeal and blueberry. Blueberries and not that scary artificial substitute.
