Building Cambodia, Inc. About Us
http://www.buildingcambodia.org/aboutus.html
Building Cambodia, Inc. Humanitarian contributions since 200. Around the year 2000, Caldwell United Methodist Church. In southeastern Wisconsin decided they were going to go global. This tiny congretgation of barely 50 members sent three people to explore Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam to determine where they could make a difference in the world. It was a crazy idea from just about any perspective. Somehow it worked. Seminars and training on English, life skills, trade skills, science, and more. Establi...

Cambodia Sam: Stop #1: Mr. Sok's house
http://cambodiasam.blogspot.com/2014/07/stop-1-mr-soks-house.html
Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Stop #1: Mr. Sok's house. Mr Sok is a extremely kind and compassionate person. As a village elder in the town of Bakralein he feels a personal responsibility to better the lives of everyone around him. I installed a PC at his house many years ago and I can easily say it is the best cared for machine of all I maintain. It was still going strong when I checked on him and his family today. Cambodia Sam: From Basics to Vocations
http://cambodiasam.blogspot.com/2014/07/from-basics-to-vocations.html
Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. From Basics to Vocations. The change is mostly around complexity and application. People no longer just want to learn English because it might. Lead to a job. Now they specifically want to learn a trade which will. Lead to a job. Electrician is a great example. Take a look at this, and pay special attention to the tangled mass just beyond the arm of the digging equipment (click to see it better):. Siem Reap - Google Maps.

Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Monday, July 28, 2014. Country Rat, not City Rat. On the drive back from Battambang, we noticed a few roadside grills. Their specialty: rat. Apparently the ones from the fields are ok to eat, but you need to avoid ones from in the city. I guess that makes sense, if you are going to get over the idea of eating rat in the first place. No, I didn't try it. The fact that it smelled quite good was disturbing. Even with all that, it was quite entertaining...

Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. When you think of tapioca, do you think of this? I always felt like it was. Balls of snot suspended in. Bad vanilla pudding. There was nothing appetizing about it. Frankly I couldn't understand why anyone would ever eat it. Today, my world changed when I saw how the entire root can be cooked. This is now what I will think of when I have tapioca. Monday, July 29, 2013. After eyeing up the church at Khnar Tmei and working with the...

Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Oh, you thought I was done? The one day project for him stretched into a multi-day affair. It was that bad. Now, the church has a central circuit breaker, new internal wiring, coverage for exposed wires, new switches and outlets, and a new high-capacity line going to the pastor's house for the main hookup. Parts and Labor: about $350. That's a DEAL. Monday, July 25, 2011. Browse through the pictures from this year's trip here:.
Cambodia Sam: 10 Years
http://cambodiasam.blogspot.com/2014/07/10-years.html
Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Friday, July 18, 2014. Today marks the beginning of my 10th visit to Cambodia. In that time I've seen:. Electricity service stabilize and expand. Children learn, graduate, and give back to their village. And so much more. Even with all this progress, I've also seen:. A challenging election cycle with debatable results. The same people in poverty, year after year. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Siem Reap - Google Maps. Building Cambodia, Inc.

Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Thursday, August 1, 2013. My last day in Cambodia was a bit of a whirlwind. Cambodia Sam: Three cheers for new tax forms!
http://cambodiasam.blogspot.com/2014/07/three-cheers-for-new-tax-forms.html
Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Monday, July 21, 2014. Three cheers for new tax forms! You probably never thought you would see that headline. I've been struggling to complete the forms required to obtain 501(c)(3) federal tax exemption for years now. Part of my problem is just plain time and the lack of it. The other has been the cryptic legal framework that requires a law degree or paid consultants to figure out the form. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Siem Reap - Google Maps.

Performing humanitarian work in Cambodia since 2004. Monday, July 16, 2012. Wait, I'm Done Already? The Edge. there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over." - Hunter S. Thompson. I'll write a summary post soon, but I have a few other items to figure out for this year's effort. Plus, I'm already back at work from our Bangalore office and busy as ever. Saturday, July 14, 2012. NEW KHMER ARCHITECTURE’ 1953-1970. Authors Helen Grant Ross and Darryl Leon Collins The Key Publisher, Bangkok December 2006. Everyone has heard of Angkor Wat, but very few are aware of that other great flowering of Khmer architectural genius, namely, the New Khmer Architecture that emerged in Phnom Penh amid the heady national pride that followed Cambodia's independence from France in 1953.
