會寫這篇東西，也許是我個人想為藝術進入社區找尋一個理由，因有人質疑：「社區需要藝術嗎？」這問題聽起來好像是在問人類需要藝術嗎？如果對藝術的需求是來自於人類的生存本能，則答案是肯定的，但是否這樣就能為環境藝術行動找到理論的支持。因又有人會問：「好，那社區需要什麼樣的藝術？」對於這個問題，我無法作答，因為惟有實踐才是硬道理。 這裡我將從原始藝術的產生及常民信仰的組成，來聯想藝術家與社區的關係及其角色扮演。會有把原始社會的藝術拿來比擬於環境藝術行動，是因為北回歸線環境藝術行動在嘉義推動的這兩、三年，本身就是在創造神話，而對神話的保留與傳承往往是原始社會創作的動機。 越來越多的證據顯示，原始社會的創作活動是為了神話傳承之需，是整體社會結構的重要組成，甚至攸關族群的生死存亡，其與神靈溝通儀式中的繪畫、雕塑、音樂、語言無一不與生活相結合，並作為人類心智活動的外顯而成為族群的共同記憶，是以其創作的目的不在藝術或者是為藝術而藝術。 我想從這裡轉而述說藝術行動與傳統社造的不同，主要就在溝通的手段與對象的差異。因為藝術行動的溝通主體是藝術家與居民，其手段為藝術，剛好可...65292;巫師之所以有法力就在於他異於常人...
