One night NZ$200 per couple. Stay two or more nights and pay NZ$180 per night per couple. 15 per person extra for hot breakfast. No deposit is necessary although credit card details are required to secure booking. Cancellations less than fourteen days prior to arrival will incur a fee of 50% of the total tariff. Check in is from 4pm. Check out by 10am. This is a Pet Free, Smoke Free home and is not normally suitable for very young children. Phone number is required. E-Mail address is required.

About The Catlins Region. The Catlins region has many attractions, all of which are quite accessible and include beautiful natural scenery, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, caves, forests and beaches. Kaka Point is a great place to stay and from which to explore all of this unique region. Europeans started to settle in the mid 1850s, mainly to mill trees, the first timber mill starting operation around 1865. By the 1880s nine timber mills were operating near the Catlins and Owaka Rivers.

Kenthurst Lodge in Kaka Point offers a little bit of luxury for travellers making their way through the Catlins. You can choose from the two rooms available which offer privacy for couples and twin share. Each features their own deck, ensuite (one with bath), central heating, TV, separate entrance and super king-size bed with quality linen, fluffy towels and robes. The rooms share a cosy reading room with tea and coffee making facilities and all have pleasant garden and ocean views.

Image credit Si Frost. Catlin's as a tobacconist started in Broadstairs in 1998 and when it moved to Lewes it inhabited the premises known as F.E. Hall, although the Hall family had ceased to be associated with it since, I think, the 1980s. Increasing rents and rates plus a decline in tobacco sales really put the kibosh on it, and although we moved to the Needlemakers the writing was on the wall and it closed in October 2011.
