Longarm Quilting

Friday, January 31, 2014. I've had the pleasure of being on Quiltmaker Magazine's Scrap Squad this year. What is the Scrap Squad? Well, Quiltmaker Magazine chooses 8 ladies from their applicants each year and that is their Scrap Squad. We are assigned one quilt out of each issue of the magazine to make in our own way, and of course, preferrably scrappy! I am one of 7 children, so I am sure there will be plenty of nieces and nephews in my future! Our next quilt was originally called Western Waltz. The...

Longarm Quilting: November 2012

http://www.coliesquilting.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 19, 2012. From a jelly roll! I had the opportunity to quilt both of these quilts recently. Believe it or not, they were both made with jelly rolls! I love the pattern on both of these and really enjoyed working on them! First up is Sandi J! The entire center of this quilt was made with jelly roll fabric. The only thing on this quilt that wasn't part of the Jelly roll is the outer border and the backing fabric. Isn't that awesome? I loved getting to do some fun custom quilting on this one.

Longarm Quilting: Quilts

http://www.coliesquilting.blogspot.com/2013/10/quilts.html

Monday, October 7, 2013. This beautiful quilt was made as a gift for a 50th wedding anniversary. This quilt almost used up all of the space on my 12' frame. I love doing these big quilts, especially when it is pieced as meticulously as this one! We chose an all-over leafy design called "Harvest Winds" I really enjoyed the way that this one turned out! This next quilt is going to be a gift at a baby shower. We decided to put some custom work on this baby! Boy-o it sure jazzed up this quilt!

Longarm Quilting: August 2013

http://www.coliesquilting.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 7, 2013. I have recently been able to quilt two quilts that were Crabapple Hill patterns. One was a farmhouse and one Halloween. The embroidery on both of these quilts was amazing! I had a great time coming up with ways to quilt them. This is how they turned out! The detail on these two quilts is awesome. This first quilt was made by Annette. And a shot of the center panel. Here is the full quilt. And a bucket of Cherries. You get the point. I had fun! Friday, August 2, 2013. Its that t...

Longarm Quilting: October 2012

http://www.coliesquilting.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 27, 2012. I learned about MQX about 4 weeks before the event. As soon as I heard that there was a conference just for us longarm quilters I was determined to GO! I immediately went home and signed up for classes. Originally I only signed up for about 5 classes but I ended up taking many more than that. I learned from some amazing teachers like Gina Perkes, who taught me how to design my own motifs. Kim Brunner. She taught Twirly Whirly Feathers and spoke at the banquet. Here I am with m...

Quilting, cooking, crafting, racing. you'll find it all here. Sunday, January 5, 2014. Making Celtic Solstice: Final Reveal. Bonnie surprised us by publishing the final clue of Celtic Solstice. On New Year's Day! It was definitely fun to see the final design and how all our units played together, but at the same time it was a sad day, knowing that we were done playing until next year. Be that as it may, I got right to work on assembling my quilt. First, we put together these blocks:. Hi, I'm Valerie!

Valerie's Patch-Work: February 2014

http://valeriespatchwork.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Quilting, cooking, crafting, racing. you'll find it all here. Saturday, February 8, 2014. My Celtic Solstice quilt is finally done! I made the smaller version of the quilt, but it wasn't quite large enough for my needs so I extended it a bit. I added the checkerboard border to the top and bottom of the quilt to lengthen it a little, and I also added a border all around the quilt, using a grey print that was too perfect to pass up. I mean, look at that print! Sunday, February 2, 2014. I have decided I'm g...

Valerie's Patch-Work: Repairing a Quilt from 1941

Quilting, cooking, crafting, racing. you'll find it all here. Thursday, May 29, 2014. Repairing a Quilt from 1941. Recently, I was given the honor of repairing a quilt made in 1941. I adore antique quilts, and having the chance to help bring this one back to life was an honor and an amazing experience. My client's relative (grandmother, I think? This is the quilt, before I did any work on it:. To get my batting piece the right shape, I first put a piece of paper under the quilt, so I could trace the shap...

This recipe turned out marvelous and surprisingly everyone told me how much they loved the spinach in it. I think people smell canned spinach and assume that anything with cooked spinach is going to taste like canned smells. Well that couldn’t be further from the truth. I find that adding spinach to a recipe is a great way to get in extra veggies! 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided.

Colie's Place | The Magic in Ordinary Days

The Magic in Ordinary Days. Back in April (ish) I bought the mister a ticket to Riot Fest-Chicago. Specifically to see Brand New, but also some other pretty good bands. I didn’t attend, but he seemed to have a great time. Frankly, I wanted to go to see Chicago, and spend some time with my friend, Stephanie. As a bonus, I got to meet Stephanie’s new fiance. He’s quite lovely and very kind. I can’t wait to go again. But, I really want to remember the loveliness of fall. Write what you care about. Don’t...

Not all those who wander are lost – but I usually am. February 1, 2015. One year ago I was traveling Panama. With three amazing dudes who spoiled me all morning and made my love for all things backpacking magnify. We were staying in the world’s only inhabitable volcanic crater drinking delicious rum and taking hot showers (my first in Central America and my only for the first four months there). Life was great. I still love this photo, and all the love it encapsulates, an excessive amount. Was blown away...
