Photo by China Jorrin. BPI currently enrolls nearly 300 women and men pursuing either associate or bachelor degrees in six prisons across New York State. Overview of the Bard Prison Initiative. As the largest program of its kind in the United States, BPI enrolls nearly 300 incarcerated men and women across a full spectrum of academic disciplines, and offers over 60 courses each semester. To date, Bard has granted 375 degrees to BPI participants and enrolled more than 700 students.
