Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Last weekend the alpacas were fascinated by the happenings in the pasture next door. The boys getting a close look into the neighboring pasture. They saw five little goats! Our new neighbors had their goats delivered on Sunday. There is one pregnant Nubian doe, one black pygmy doe with her one-week-old baby, and two white pygmy wethers. The objects of their curiosity. I had to get a closeup of the little baby. She's so tiny it's hard to see her in the grass. November at the Farm.

Tuesday, October 21, 2014. How many alpacas fit in a cargo van? Ever wonder how to move alpacas? I found an answer: in a cargo van. We moved our guys to the farm last weekend in my step-dad Pete's cargo van - all SEVEN! All 7 of the boys are "cushing" as we drive on I-70 through Kansas City. My co-pilot took a selfie :-). Sunday, July 12, 2015. Bad storm - tested our erosion control. It was a relative success, but the small terraces I built were not adequate. Early last week we had tornado sirens, high winds and 5 inches of rain - all in a few hours! Jeremy and I watched literal waterfalls pour over the retaining wall near the front porch. And the "dry" creek bed was a fast-running, full creek. Below the blueberry hedge the water washed dirt all the way across our gravel drive. They have a tremendous taproot. So this ...

Wednesday, April 22, 2015. New trees, new pasture, rain and a 4-wheel drive lesson. Last weekend I was excited to bring home 3 native trees/shrubs from the Missouri Prairie Foundation annual sale at the City Market in Kansas City. The sale is continuing this coming weekend, too. But I am doing everything I can to control the urge to buy more until I've planted what I already have. Ozark Witch Hazel waiting to be planted. Unfortunately, I needed a lesson in patience (and the limits of 4-wheel drive in mud).

Being a new beekeeper, there is really no other way to understand what a strong hive and a weak hive look like. I have one of each. And the difference between them is huge. Monday, September 29, 2014. Brent and I worked yesterday on the barn for the alpacas. The dirt work was scheduled for last week, but will be done tomorrow (Tuesday) due to rain delays. Brent has finished his work on the flooring in the house and decided to help me yesterday. We also got a hand from my step-dad, Pete. Things go a lot faster with those guys around! Thursday, January 29, 2015. A little pause before the big move. Well, it looks as though we may have sold our Shawnee house, which is awesome! So within a month we will be down to one house payment :-). It also means we have A LOT of stuff to move in a few weeks. And we have a few more things to finish up here at the farm before we can close on the mortgage here. Hmmm. Generally, we are, well, we're overwhelmed. I think the next 3 weekends will be about the same. This is Mr. "T". That is Toby on the left.
