Scott's Adventures

Wednesday, June 15, 2011. On Sunday Brandon and I rented jet skis and headed out in the Pacific along the CR coast. We were on a guided tour but it was a great time. Definately want to do this again back home. On Tuesday most of the group took a tour of Manuel Antonio National Park and saw a lot of wildlife. We had a great guide, Johann, who took a lot of time to point things out. Most things were tiny or at a good distance, so we used his scope to get better pictures. A close up of a two toed sloth.

Scott's Adventures: September 2008

http://daveheadsadventures.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 28, 2008. 9/28/09 - I was able to take a helicopter flight above the fire today. This is the helicopter we took, an Alouette A-Star. Taking off from the Hood River airport. There are several types of helicopters working the fire and one fixed wing aircraft. Here we are approaching the Northern slopes of Mt Hood above the fire. There are a few smoldering hot spots up on the mountain but for the most part there is no active fire at this time. And on the North side of the mountain. Here is...

Sunday, September 28, 2008. 9/27/08 - Fire Camp tour. Here is an aerial photo I took of the Incident Command Post (ICP) or Fire Camp at the Hood River County Fairgrounds. It becomes a pretty self sufficient city suppling almost everything one needs. One of the first things you notice when you get into camp are all the tents. It doesn't seem like there are 500 tents in camp but the food trailer makes meals for 500 people. There are even portable showers in a trailer. You can see the potable water truc...

Scott's Adventures: Costa Rica Trip, June 2011

http://daveheadsadventures.blogspot.com/2011/06/costa-rica-trip-june-2011.html

Saturday, June 11, 2011. Costa Rica Trip, June 2011. Here is a white face monkey that visited our house. We placed bananas on the deck railing and several monkeys came to visit. We took an awesome zip line tour across the canopy of a rain forest Saturday. A couple friends of my parents, Rick and Kimberly, came too and we met two guys from Chicago, Anthony and Jimmy, who were in our group. And here I am going across this section. Almost all the way across. Pretty amazing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Scott's Adventures: January 2007

http://daveheadsadventures.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 15, 2007. January Day in Eastern NC. How does one spend an unseasonably warm January day in Eastern NC? How about Kayaking, Clamming and Camping! My buddy Brian and I have come up with the great idea of kayaking from my house in Newport, NC to his house in Portsmouth, VA this summer. That is a 250 mi, 10 day trip along the Outer Banks; ouch, we better start training now. We started out at Shell Point, at the Cape Lookout National Seashore. I have an Old Town Dirigo 140. I brought along so...

My favorite shell in Florida is the whelk. Observe, and marvel, at the symmetrical lines of these shells. Wanderings of the old sloat. This blog is primarily a travelogue. I am retired from the National Weather Service and on the road as much as possible! Thursday, April 19, 2007. This looks like a glacial erratic, but it's simply a boulder that broke off from adjacent cliffs and came to a stop in this particular place. Though it hasn't been the best flower season, there were still some handsome chinese houses along the trail. Posted by oldsloat @ 3:40 PM. Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Later in the day, we ventur...

Here's a longer range view of the above cactus. One of the intriguing things about the saguaro is that each of them has its own personality and design, but even so this one is downright wierd! Sunday, April 25, 2010. Kegerator Build - Part Three. I know I know. I've been super slow on this. I keep having to wait for parts or different parts, or other different parts to get this thing together. Currently. One problem I ran into is apparently no single place in the country had stainles steel shanks in stock! I've also found a super cheap place to have my aluminum CO2 tank refilled. R and D's Fire Control. From what I've read most places would charge you $10-$15. I've fit the well nut onto the wi...
