David Rand – Writing New York. A qwriting.qc.cuny.edu blog. Outline for Essay #2 – Motifs YI (DR). Posted October 17, 2010. Motif: The self and the city. Thesis: Whitman, Whitehead, and Gopnik each explore the motif of the city and the self from a unique perspective; yet, they all choose this motif because it allows the reader to personally relate to the texts. Colson Whitehead’s Brooklyn Bridge. Walt Whitman’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry. Adam Gopnik’s The People on the Bus. Feeling that disappointed feeling.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not fail me as much as this particular one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read through, however I truly thought you would have something useful to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you were not too busy seeking attention.

David Rand – Writing New York. A qwriting.qc.cuny.edu blog. Posted September 3, 2010. As I sat among friends in Hebrew class on a hot September morning in North Miami Beach, the excitement for the beginning of fourth grade was still fresh. During the first three years of elementary school, I had become a pro at multitasking listening, chatting with my neighbor, writing notes, etc. during class. We all had. We were in the midst of an ordinary lesson when the door opened. The Magic School Bus.

November 23rd, 2010. Age of Innocence through the eyes of Wilson. Posted by michellemartins in Uncategorized. Throughout Wilson’s essay the concept of the comfort zone and the labyrinth keep reappearing. The comfort zone is the place of safety, where everything is certain and predictable. There is a bourgeoisie order, which does not allow for any room to change. The labyrinth on the other hand is not a straight path, and is filled with mysteries and uncertainties. The Owl at Purdue Writing Lab. The Walt Whitman Archive. November 24, 2010, 8:13 pm. While watching the documentary, I could not help but notice the similarity between Petit’s yearning for suspension and the theme of suspension in some of our earlier readings. What is so great about suspension? Why is this theme something that comes up in many writings? Why does man wish to be situated in an in between? I think Petit’s in between was a place not even he could define. When asked by reporters why he ti...
