Sunday, December 29, 2013. Hasta la proxima [See you next time]. Mother Nature decided to give me a going away present. This morning the clouds parted and I was able to see the crescent moon and a sky full of stars for just the third time in the last three months. When the sun rose at 10:30AM, it showed a cloudless sky with calm winds. By noon the temperature had shot into the high 30's. What a nice way to end my tour on the island. Tuesday, July 8, 2014. We've now missed two regular flights because of the contractor difficulties and are starting to run low on food. Fortunately there is a caveat to the refuge rules that allows fishing, if it's for sustenance. Yesterday we took one of the boats offshore and trolled around the 300' depth line. There aren't any fishing rods on the island, so instead they've attached lengths of parachute cord to large hooks and secured them to the boat cleats. July 11, 2014 at 8:23 AM.

They swung by on their cruise through the NW Hawaiian islands that happens several times a year to pick up and drop off researchers. On this occasion, the vessel was asked to bring out some strategic supplies from Honolulu since we've been without regular transportation. A place most people don't even realize exists.
