Our first harvest | Digging the Dirt

https://diggingthedirt.wordpress.com/2010/07/16/our-first-harvest

July 16, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. We’ve only been in our new house three months, but due to a bit of cheating (thanks to Frosts Garden Centre, Woburn. With some bought veg plants we’ve already managed to harvest a good bit of veg. We also bought some celeriac plants that are doing well in the front garden, along with some tomato plants. And later in the year we have brussels to look forward to, as well as potatoes both in the veg patch and in those pop-up garden bags that are usually used fo...

Kids and gardens | Digging the Dirt

https://diggingthedirt.wordpress.com/2010/06/17/kids-and-gardens

June 17, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. In my column in Vale Life. Magazine this month, I list some ideas for getting children into gardening. Our garden is very much in the embryo stage at the moment, but despite having been in our new home for only two months, we already have potatoes, spring cabbage, courgettes, calabrese, peas, French beans and red spring onions on the go. Talking of which, we’ve had the delight of watching several mummy birds feeding their babies from our bird table this we...

Looking ahead to summer in the garden | Digging the Dirt

https://diggingthedirt.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/23

Looking ahead to summer in the garden. January 26, 2011 · Filed under Uncategorized. The sun was shining at the weekend so I took the chance to plant up a few of the bulbs I didn’t get round to in the autumn. I had started off really well, but then it snowed and that was that. Plus the new borders had not been dug because of the snow, so many of the bulbs are now in pots and will be transplanted later. Next on my list are the amazing black and yellow petunias. We shall see…. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Best things in life are free-gle (or freecycle) | Digging the Dirt

https://diggingthedirt.wordpress.com/2010/06/21/best-things-in-life-are-free-gle-or-freecycle

Best things in life are free-gle (or freecycle). June 21, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. Okay, I have to admit it, I am a Freecycle/Freegle addict. I have the latest posts send straight to my inbox, and delight in nosing about among people’s rubbish (in a virtual kind of way). You’re getting the gardening theme here aren’t you? Still, whatever its foibles, no one can deny that the concept of the recycling sites (whether you favour Freegle or Freecycle or A N Other) is a fantastic one. And now we h...

Digging the Dandenongs

Friday, January 10, 2014. Abundance" is a term I'm hearing a lot lately. Mostly through watching the lovely Geoff Lawton's ongoing series of permaculture videos. If you've watched these you'll know what I mean ;). The other day my eldest was out picking beans, carrots and beetroot to prep for preserving / freezing and I could hear her yelling "Mummy! Here she is posing with half of her haul before taking it inside. Her little sister came to the rescue with another basket, a bigger one this time, to r...

Een lang (iets té lang) a...

Glass at last – well polycarbonate anyway. March 16, 2011 · Filed under Uncategorized. And then I will get busy on my next batch of seeds – tomatoes, cucumbers, and a variety of flower seeds yet to be decided. Meanwhile, outside, more seed sowing got under way – onions, new potatoes (Charlottes) broad beans and spring cabbages have gone straight into the ground. I feel like the gardening season has truly arrived. Leave a comment ». Sowing the seeds for happy memories. We’re still harvesting last au...

Friday, August 5, 2011. The 10th Sub Level of Suicide. And so it would appear that my little blog has returned. I just read somewhere out there that the ever elusive Leviathan are to return with a new album in what remains of 2011. I cannot wait and you have been warned. Leviathan's music is among the most frightening and bleak in the crowded world of black metal. This is their first album from 2003, The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide. Friday, December 3, 2010. It’s blissful to be back on the plot again, and I’m beginning to understand the “gluts” that people have spoken about. Our first year “in produ...A Busy Little Plot! A birthday ...
