Water and wait | Domestic Scene
https://domesticscene.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/water-and-wait
We are extending the lawn. I thought the prep might take a week. A month more like it. I love a flat lush lawn. Bowling green, putting green – the lawn dream. Our last lawn was laser levelled, earth worked – screeded- scraped within a 1/8 inch of itself and float finished with a timber plank before hydro seeding. October 24, 2014. Laquo; Previous Post. This weekend has been cloudy, with showers. I added a few trees to the garden (12 or so); Mountain Beech (Nothofagus Solandri var Cliffordosis) for native and evergreen structure, and the Ornamental Pear (Pyrus Calleryana “Aristocrat”) for Spring white, Summer green, Autumn fire and Winter invisibility. Street food | Domestic Scene
https://domesticscene.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/street-food
Orchards are not quite so prevalent in the suburbs here, though single trees of apple or pear are popular. I have planted several fruit trees at the street boundary, to the bottom of the bund and adjacent to the street swale. Plumcot, Plum, Dwarf apple, Double Apple Coxes and Pippin so far, underplanted in mixed daffodils and Hebe karo Golden Esk. At the road boundary, the trees show off blossom in spring, colour in autumn, invisibility in winter, and in summer – street food. September 13, 2014.

Our Schoolboy | Make Yourself at Home

Make Yourself at Home. Where I Find Myself. Our New Arrival →. August 31, 2013. No sooner had we made this decision, but we discovered we were expecting another little family member to arrive about a month after school was due to start, meaning I would be able to be home on maternity leave for all of Kazou’s first year at school. Finally the big day came. He was SO proud of his new uniform (with the smiley sun, Mama’) and after a back-to-school playday in the village hall the previous week (whi...We had ...

Make Yourself at Home. Where I Find Myself. August 15, 2013. By the time our trip rolled around, though we were longing for the break, we no longer felt the need to top up on sunshine and I was not entirely keen on 10 hours of driving to get to our destination. However, it was our last family of three outing before the baby arrived, we had booked accommodation and we had plans – so off we went to the southern seaside. Highlights of our time in the south include:. There’s no place like home…. Who are a qu...

Make Yourself at Home. Where I Find Myself. Where I Find Myself. I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself. I spent most of our first year in the USA pregnant with our first son, and then I spent a couple of years hanging out with him and slowly my sense of identity became very much shaped by all that staying at home to parent can involve. So goodbye ‘not working’ the musings are still around, but the sentiments have evolved. 3 thoughts on “ Where I Find Myself. Where I Find...

Make Yourself at Home. Where I Find Myself. December 9, 2013. This week we celebrate our little Mei-bug’s first three months with us – no longer a newborn anymore! We have had a lovely time getting to know her and letting her settle into herself. Autumn’s shortening days allowed us plenty of cosy quiet times to savour the snuggly delights of a new person who really did just want to be held for most of the first weeks. In the past few months we have done school holiday craftiness…. October 17, 2013. She j...

Friday, 18 January 2013. Pinning down my style. This time next year we will be embarking on our building projects back home in NZ. It feels amazing to say that! It has been a long hard slog here in the UK, but the end (beginning? I am collecting and collating images like crazy. Pinning down an interior style. I feel like I am at my best when given a challenging, limited space to work with. Making the best of a bad situation I guess! So working from a blank slate is quite a thing. These images fit the bill.
Brown Paper & String: The perfect rose
http://brownpaperstring.blogspot.com/2010/06/perfect-rose.html
Sunday, 13 June 2010. Yesterday I was walking the streets of Fulham at 5.30am with Max. This is not something that I want to make a habit of, but I am trying to get Max off the bottle so he is waking and screaming the house down at all hours. There is a certain house in a certain street which has the most amazing roses out the front. I KNOW it's naughty but I just couldn't resist this ONE LITTLE ROSE, just one. Brown Paper and String. Monday, June 20, 2011. New Week, New Style: Trying a new Nail Color. This week on New Week, New Style, I'd like to focus on our nails. Most of us have that signature color that we reach for, and while that's great, why don't we shake it up every once and awhile? Here's a few colors that I love! I love a really great blue polish. It's so fresh, and so unexpected on your nails. This shade, called No Room for the Blues by OPI. Try this color with your gold jewelry, the two will really pop off of each other!

Monday, June 29, 2015. Some Thoughts on Poldark. I was really predisposed to like the new incarnation of. Currently airing on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. I have never seen the original, nor read the book(s? But, judging from the previews and the bit I heard from period-piece lovers who remembered the version from the 70s, I was excited about a sweeping romance, set in 18th century Cornwall, starring a dark and brooding hero. I have to say, I am just tired of the way that infidelity is portrayed in so many...
