A pedestrian in Montgomery County, Maryland. Friday, May 27, 2011. A Pedestrian Plans his Weekend. Being a pedestrian requires planning. Coping as a walker in a car-world isn't easy. There is no hopping in the car and dashing off to the store to pick-up a few things. On the contrary, I try to do most of the shopping for the week at once - on Saturday morning. This involves pushing one-hundred pounds of groceries back from sSfeway in a cart. Either way, I have to change my routine. Some of the work was co...

Friday, September 23, 2011. But seriously - this is dangerous. A pedestrian who is distracted by being splashed of having to tippy-toe through the puddles is not watching the traffic. It also encourages jaywalking . Who wants to stand there and wait to get splashed? In the video you will see a woman get sprayed by a passing ca...

A pedestrian in Montgomery County, Maryland. Friday, February 24, 2012. What do you get? I got an email from Montgomery County's ADA Compliance officer today. She seemed surprised and a little upset that I did not know she existed. I did , of course, but what can I say. When you go to the County website about ADA, you will find nothing about right-of-way issues. PARKING, yes, but nothing about sidewalks. Take a look;. Montgomery County Department of General Services. Links to this post. There are still a...

A pedestrian in Montgomery County, Maryland. Wednesday, April 18, 2012. My wife continued to cross once the bus stopped, and I followed her. I had to weave to the left because the bus was in the crosswalk. The driver yelled something through the window that I could not understand. I said, "What did you say? You have a lot of trust in my brakes! He yelled through the door as I continued past. We have a lot of faith in your driving, too," I replied. Here is the auto-response:. Thank you for contacting Mont...

A pedestrian in Montgomery County, Maryland. Thursday, February 7, 2013. As you can see, the evidence I have collected on this blog was not persuasive enough for the Federal Highway Administration to find cause against MCDOT.This effectively ends my activism on this issue through this blog. I hope that the blog has been informative, and has offered some new perspectives and possible strategies for making Montgomery County sidewalks accessible to pedestrians – finally. We have a long way to go.
