February 13, 2015. As of today, I’ve conducted two real interviews, the kind that I recorded and everything. I’ve been doing a lot of catching up with people, with the plan that some other time I’ll do a more serious interview, but these were both with language activists who I know well. There’s some good stuff in the conversations, but I’ve also been amused by the things in the background:. In both, several cups of tea being consumed. A Maoist rally going past. Everyone’s a sociolinguist.

Living with a grandma. January 30, 2015. As anyone who talked to me in my first week in Kathmandu knows, my top priority was finding a place to live. Apartment hunting in Kathmandu is not one of my favorite activities: it involves a lot of phone calls to people I don’t know, locating places in the city, and weighing different criteria against one another. None of these are particularly fun things. But I found a fantastic place! I eagerly await my further adventures in Nepali grandmahood.
