Next to their concert activities Astria pay's great attention to an educational project. The target group are students DKO oboe and cor anglais with a level from M3. The students are receiving private master classes taught by Eric Speller and Dimitri Mestdag. On the basis of previously sent scores, Yf Bourry works on a program for oboe band. Dimitri Mestdag, cor anglais. Dimitri studied at the music academy in Harelbeke and at the School of Arts in Ghent in the class of Yf Bourry. He obtained a master's degree in oboe, cor anglais and chamber music at the Brussels Conservatory, studying under Paul Dombrecht and Alex Van Beveren. He attended master classes given by Alain Denis, Ingo Goritzki and Thomas Indermühle and studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory under Emanuel Abbühl. Dimitri plays a cor anglais by Buffet Crampon.

Yf Bourry, hobo en oboe d'amore. Begon zijn hobostudies aan de Stedelijke Academie voor muziek “Peter Benoit” te Harelbeke bij Omer Geirnaert en daarna aan de Kunsthumaniora te Gent bij Paul Dombrecht. Hij was hobo solo van 1980 tot 2000 in het Westvlaams Orkest, het Nieuw Vlaams Orkest en het Symfonieorkest van Vlaanderen. Tussen 2000 en 2007 was hij hoboïst bij de Beethoven Akademie. Belgische Kamerfilharmonie en het orkest van de Lage Landen.

Naast hun concertactiviteit besteedt Astria grote aandacht aan een pedagogisch project. De doelgroep zijn DKO-studenten hobo en Engelse hoorn met een niveau vanaf M3. De leerlingen krijgen tijdens de masterclasses les van Eric Speller en Dimitri Mestdag. Aan de hand van vooraf toegestuurde partituren studeert Yf Bourry met alle ingeschreven studenten een programma in voor hoboband. Het slotconcert bestaat uit een gedeelte hoboband en een concert met Astria. Voorbeeld van een dag in het DKO met Astria.

Eric Speller, hobo. Eric Speller begon zijn hobostudies op 12-jarige leeftijd en won na reeds vier jaar de Nationale Jeugd Wedstrijd, georganiseerd door Buffet Crampon. Hij vervolgde zijn studie aan het Conservatoire van Rueil-Malmaison in de klas van Claude Maisonneuve en ontving in 1990 de “medaille d’or d’exellence” voor hobo en kamermuziek. Tussen 1995 en 1997 was hij co-solist bij het Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo en is sinds 1997 hobo-solo bij deFilharmonie (Royal Flemish Philharmonic).
