中国科学院国家天文台南京天文光学技术研究所以下简称南京天光所于 2001. 米光学天文望远镜获国家科技进步一等奖，在天文技术研究方面取得了以天文望远镜光学的研究获国家自然科学二等奖为代表的一大批研究成果。作为主要研制单位完成了国家重大科学工程项目郭守敬望远镜原称大天区面积多目标光纤光谱天文望远镜，英文简称 LAMOST. 个博士后流动站，是中国科学院大学天文学、光学工程两个一级学科和天体物理、天文技术与方法、精密仪器及机械三个二级学科的硕士、博士培养点，以及光学工程、仪器仪表工程两个全日制专业学位的培养点，且是江苏省先进光学制造技术高技能人才培养基地。重点致力于实现下一代地基极大口径光学红外望远镜关键技术研究和太阳系外行星探测技术二个领域的重大突破重点培育天文超高分辨探测成像、极端环境及空间天文光学技术、大口径天文和空间光学先进制造技术三个研究方向。南京天光所将出成果出人才出思想三位一体的战略使命和面向四个率先的战略目标作为各项重要工作行动指南，致力于建成立足国内一流，在国际上有重要影响的现代化天文技术研究机构。
