https://expatlingo.com/2015/06/16/the-kids-are-all-right-mud-sand-water-sticks-and-fire

Observations of a Serial Expat. The kids are all right: Mud, sand, water, sticks and fire. June 16, 2015. In the Netherlands, my tolerance for both mess and risk have increased. Secondly, I know that if we go out when it is mildly warmish, that we will get wet because where there is sand in the Netherlands, there is also water. Thirdly, not only will every Dutch outing be wildly fun and messy, it will also be more perilous because playgrounds here are far less focused on safety than in the US or UK.

Observations of a Serial Expat. Toggling the Europe-Asia brain switch. June 23, 2015. Blue skies over Central Hong Kong. Although we will be living in the Netherlands for a few more weeks, I just took a quick trip to Hong Kong in order to organize parts of our upcoming move and to see a few wonderful departing friends. I enjoyed every moment of my long weekend, but now I find myself not only jet-lagged, but also expat-transition-lagged. Hiking in Hong Kong’s New Territories. It was all fantastic. So, as ...

Observations of a Serial Expat. Trampled under the tulips at the Keukenhof. April 21, 2015. Keukenhof is a famous springtime garden and tourist trap based in Lisse, Netherlands. Observations of a Serial Expat. Goodbye bow tie, hello mud pit: a seismic shift in nursery care. September 9, 2014. In Hong Kong, this is how my son dressed to attend nursery:. On chilly days, Mr. Big Shot layered a on a lemon yellow sweater vest. This was his mandatory uniform for non-gym days. On gym days he wore shorts that reached his arm pits, paired with a white polo shirt and white sports shoes. Yes, he was part of a tiny army of three-year-old Hongkongers dressed as retired Floridians. The change...

Reflections on Living and Teaching in Germany. December 11, 2013. Bull; ( 17 Comments. Arguing with Someone on the Internet is Like…. It was one of those days where I didn’t quite know which mug to use. Last night I couldn’t sleep. Yesterday it was hard to teach. I sat stewing, angry with myself for letting it get to me. I was angry with myself for letting someone’s opinion of me (someone I don’t even know) push me to this point of angst. I try to model for my students life long learning. And when th...

5th country I am living in. I have a baby now. A Typical Afternoon of a Stay-at-Home-Mom. In my last post. I wrote about a day of ours from the time we wake up until nap time. In this post, I will attempt to write down what usually happens AFTER nap time. Zoard is 3.5 years old and Assya is 9 months old. We are currently in Thailand. On me in our bed. I put Assya back in her cot but she only stays laying down if I pat her bum so eventually, I take her out. Her and I give her some balls. We first, pretend.
