The Great Experiment

All about an Austin garden whose keeper has no idea what she's doing. Friday, January 25, 2008. It's cold, it's rainy, and I'm staying inside. I brought in my cacti and plumeria. Months ago. The plumeria. Has lost most of its leaves, but that happened. Last year, too. I was too lazy to go out and buy mulch this year, so I piled all of the leaves that fell off of the pecan tree onto the flower beds. and that's about it. Posted by r r s at 1/25/2008 01:36:00 PM. The Great Experiment: Downtime

http://www.experimentalgarden.blogspot.com/2007/05/downtime.html

All about an Austin garden whose keeper has no idea what she's doing. Thursday, May 03, 2007. The early spring rush of blooms has finished, so now I'm waiting for my hot-weather plants to bloom. The magnolia seems to have buds, and my native hibiscus are leafing out. The weather we've had over the last week hasn't exactly encouraged me to get out and garden. It's either humid and hot or stormy. Since the temperatures have been higher (in the mid 80's), I probably won't do much more planting this season.

The Great Experiment: November 2006

http://www.experimentalgarden.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

All about an Austin garden whose keeper has no idea what she's doing. Tuesday, November 14, 2006. The rose was labeled at Shoal Creek Nursery as "Playboy," but I've seen a similar. Rose in catalogs called " Playgold. Its blooms are single and are edged in coral with a gold base. Posted by r r s at 11/14/2006 12:43:00 PM. Links to this post. This is one of my Home Depot roses. Shortly. After it was planted, I developed an interest in antique roses and a disdain. Posted by r r s at 11/14/2006 12:27:00 PM.

The Great Experiment: Did I miss something here?

http://www.experimentalgarden.blogspot.com/2007/05/did-i-miss-something-here.html

All about an Austin garden whose keeper has no idea what she's doing. Friday, May 25, 2007. Did I miss something here? Evidently, there was quite a bit of wind during last night's storms, since I woke up this morning to find a fairly large branch in my front yard. I'm happy to report that it didn't cause much damage, and it just barely missed the nectarine tree. Other areas haven't had it so easy:. I, however, am pleased that I've hadly hard to water at all this year. M Sinclair Stevens (Austin).

The Great Experiment: October 2006

http://www.experimentalgarden.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

All about an Austin garden whose keeper has no idea what she's doing. Wednesday, October 18, 2006. I looked out of my back door this morning and noticed that one of my roses is in bloom. with absolutely no help from me! About half of my back lawn is alive again, and my firebush is pushing out a new round of flowers. Although today is rather humid and icky, fall has started to set in. Perhaps my enthusiasm will be rivived with the cooler temperatures. Posted by r r s at 10/18/2006 11:28:00 AM.

Something About Blooming and Butterflies: June 2006

http://vivesgarden.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html

Something About Blooming and Butterflies. All work and no play? Not in the springtime! Tuesday, June 13, 2006. Chris offers a cornucopia via photo. On his first night back, he and Annabella ate pizza from the freezer and veggies from the garden. There are record temps at home, so everything is crispy and already I'm hearing how arduous it is to water everyday. And yet he persists. Posted by Vivé at 9:45 PM. Monday, June 05, 2006. Once again it's Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, sponsored by Carole at May Dreams Gardens. Who invites gardeners everywhere to let us in on what's blooming in their gardens on the 15th of each month. South of the River: Too much of a good thing?

http://south-of-the-river.blogspot.com/2007/10/too-much-of-good-thing.html

South of the River. Time passes. The garden changes. Thursday, October 04, 2007. Too much of a good thing? I know. I know. It wasn't really a hot summer by our usual standards. Not one day over 100 at the official temperataure recording station. And all that rain. More than double our annual total by June. What's not to like? I blame the rain. Mss @ Zanthan Gardens. Just what I've been saying. Oh! I don't care how much rain we've had, we need some more. And some cool weather. Isn't it fun to grouse?

http://south-of-the-river.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

South of the River. Time passes. The garden changes. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Out the kitchen window. Wisteria, just past peak. I believe that this year's wisteria bloom was at its peak yesterday. Today more leaves are showing and, although there are still buds that haven't opened, the breeze and light rain we've been having on and off all day have knocked petals off the existing bloom stalks. Saturday, March 17, 2007. I meant to take pictures to show the power of my new gardening tool but once I got sta...

Diary of a Garden. Thursday, August 24, 2006. Peppers always seem to do well here no matter. What you do to them.or don't do. If they are in the sun or the shade. This is one habanero plant we have. There's what.11 ripe peppers on there? Heres a chili pepper plant. They were on the patio till my son decided it was. A good idea to pick them and eat them. No matter what mom said. Now they are just kind of hiding behind the holly bushes. And they just keep coming. Its too bad I don't like hot food. New bush...

South of the River. Time passes. The garden changes. Thursday, August 16, 2007. Report from the jungle. I just logged on and saw that I haven't posted since the middle of June. I missed July and August's Garden Blogger Bloom Days and, looking out at the garden, it looks like the blog is not the only thing that's been missing some attention. Right now I look at the garden and I'm not quite sure what to do. My impulse is to rip some things up (the volunteer chile pequin's time has come, I think: It's t...

Saturday, June 15, 2013. To say we had some rain in the last week, is an understatement. This is my road after 4". These are not puddles but two places that the stream has flowed over the road. Thank goodness the stream that was overflowing is back in it's banks. This all started with one peppermint crinum plant. Now we can get up to 50 blooms from the expanded plant. Maybe I will add a little lime and see what happens. Below gives you an idea how big the blooms are. Just gets bigger each year. The one o...

Friday, 15 July 2011. I'll be gorging on wild strawberries pretty soon! In case you don't remember (or have not been here before) - it's the same plant that travelled through half of Europe in an ordinary postal package, straight from my parents' garden to mine. It looked rather sad right after the transit:. The brave strawberries regained life pretty soon, within a month or so being covered in fresh green leaves and sprouting first tentative flowers. But wild strawberries are definitely a bright success.
