It's like a perfect country place surrounded by forests, fields, and there's a creek! Also very perfect for all sorts of wildlife, including birds! Monday, September 30, 2013. I have seen a lot of woodpeckers this past week, one of them the red bellied woodpecker I don't see often for some reason. I also got some beautiful shots of a flicker, as below. With their flashy yellow tails and wings, and pink head, flickers have to be THE prettiest woodpeckers in North America. Probably my best shot of a downy. Flicker by the creek. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Several of the pelicans I saw still had their chick-feeding plumage. The heron has a beard!

Tuesday, June 11, 2013. I have been watching this nest with four House Finch eggs in it, and I've been waiting to see them hatch for weeks! Now finally, there is one newly hatched house finch, and another one is starting to come out out of it's egg. It was sticking it's mouth up before I took the pictures, but I wish it still could have been doing that, it was so cute! There used to be five, but the fifth one didn't survive, because I found it out of the nest. Look at all that fuzz!

Tuesday, February 25, 2014. I went to Saylorville Lake a couple of times last week, and I saw lots of birds. Day One: There were a lot of Canada Geese, a pair of Mallards in a tiny pond, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers at the visitor center, a pair of Northern Cardinals, an American Goldfinch, Black-capped Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatches, and I saw a Bald Eagle while we were driving there. Day Two: This time I went with my dad, and I got a life bird, Common Goldeneye! Life bird Common Goldeneye.

Wednesday, March 12, 2014. They would just fly back and forth for a bit, then settle down into the water again. The middle right goose is possibly a Ross's. There was also a flock of Canada Geese, which I took pictures of, but upon further inspection of the pictures, it turns out there were a couple of Greater White-fronted Geese mixed in! Canada Geese and Greater White-fronted Geese. There were some Northern Pintails flying around also, and some Mallards foraging in a large puddle.
