FictionalCities :: Abandoned Buildings

http://fictionalcities.co.uk/abandoned.htm

There's something about a ruin that speaks to us all, I think you'll agree, and not just ancient ruins -. The charm of the dilapidated buildings of Venice needs no explanation to readers of this site,. I hope. (And this pleasure is multiplied on my. So here's a page devoted the joy of ruin porn. The painting to the left is Joseph Handy's amazing view of the Bank of England as an imagined ruin. It features on the endpapers of this book and comes courtesy of the very wonderful Sir John Soane Museum. Not an...

FictionalCities :: Trip 26 - Bruges - June 2014

http://fictionalcities.co.uk/trip26.htm

This year's non-Italian destination is inspired by the two considerable courses in Northern Renaissance art that I took last year, and the subsequent need to go see Memlings, Rogiers, Van Eycks, and the like. Also the Ghent altarpiece. On the food front there's the lure of chips, chocolate and the need to find out just what Belgian buns are called in Belgium. The burning question - raised on my Cakes. Page - seems to be whether what they call a couque aux raisins. And are almost wholly wonderful, but the...

FictionalCities :: News

http://fictionalcities.co.uk/news.htm

As the years go by finds of 'new' films set in Venice get fewer and further between. When they crop up they usually have titles that don't have the words 'Venice' or 'Venetian' in them, to explain their slipping through the net for so long. Which is the case with Le Cadeau. Brescia, Bergamo & Monza. Off to Brescia tomorrow, flying to Milan at the crack of dawn, literally - a 6.25 flight fergawdsake! You might be interested in the just-published Constance Fenimore Woolson: Portrait of a Lady Novelist.

FictionalCities :: Me

http://fictionalcities.co.uk/me.htm

North and South London - that's the halves each side of the Thames - are like separate cities and you generally stay living on the side where you were born, and mistrust and avoid people from the other half. But I can now confirm that South London does not, as is often said, smell funny. I've done various bits of freelance music reviewing down the years, from a start with Prestel (an early primitive internet-like thing) through a few years on a magazine called Which CD? The Churches of Venice. I remember...

FictionalCities :: London

http://fictionalcities.co.uk/london.htm

Novels have been set in London since novels have been written, and there's barely a British novelist who HASN'T set at least several books here. This time I've arranged them chronologically by the century of their setting. And the added non-fiction now has some separate pages dealing with books about Spitalfields, the Thames, tunnels and. Abandoned buildings. This page's self-indulgent side page deals with cakes. Peter Ackroyd The house of Doctor Dee. And The Plato Papers. A dead man in Deptford. The fou...

Is currently being presented in the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Music (Palazzo Pisani, very near Campo Santo Stefano). Many people responded, and I can now tell you a bit about this unusual creature and her offspring. Melusina was one of a set of triplets, by the way. August 2, 2016 · 3:51 pm. A Felhőbe Alkonyult c. oldalon általam írt történetekkel, illetve szintén saját, immáron befejezett fanfiction alapú irományaimmal is találkozhattok.

FictionalCities - Florence Venice London

This site is all about how stories add spice to our ideas and feelings about the cities we love. My favourites have long been London, Venice, and Florence and so I made this site, where I tell of all sorts of tales set in these three cities. Each city has a few indulgent side pages too. These deal with subjects like Venice's cats, London's cakes, and Lost Florence. To search within this site using Google, enter your search terms. Into the box as usual and then type in. Exploring new worlds to understand our own. The Metro System – Line 3. Asymp; 2 Comments. As I’m back posting on this blog, I thought I might as well continue working my way through detailing the city’s Metro system. Line 3, or the “Red Line”, is a really important route running in a general “U” shape east-west across the city. Let’s check it out generally:. This line is perhaps more similar to “ Line 1. 8221; than to “ Line 2. From this point the line turns to the east and heads towards the central city...
