Kindergarten Chaos: June 2011
http://splatypus.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Last year I was a mess on the last day of school. This year, not so much. My class is a good bunch of kids with two or three tough cookies that challenged me, but nothing that was out of my ordinary. I did have some challenging parents, parents who seemed to advocate not for their child, but for their own laziness, and that was certainly challenging, but again, nothing too far out of my ordinary. Monday, June 20, 2011. We did it friends,.

Kindergarten Chaos: January 2011

Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Thanks Mr. President. It feels pretty great when your profession is singled out by the president in the State of the Union, and then you get an email from a friend that says, "you're my favorite nation builder! Not to mention that the we-must-educate-our-children-better speech that we've heard so many times before began with the parents, not the teachers. Now back to the weather report. I'm feeling a snow day on the horizon! The kids AT...

Kindergarten Chaos: Putting on the brakes...
http://splatypus.blogspot.com/2011/11/putting-on-brakes.html
Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Putting on the brakes. Tons of research has been done on the importance of play. Nothing new here. I just feel like we as a county and as a school have been speeding away from the concept. Test performance is taking over. I work for a school who looks at testing through a realistic lens: our kids struggle with tests. We must learn how to teach them to be life long learners AND good test takers. It's just reality. Kindergarten Chaos: Tests are such great measurements of knowledge...
http://splatypus.blogspot.com/2011/10/tests-are-such-great-measurements-of.html
Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Thursday, October 27, 2011. Tests are such great measurements of knowledge. Raise your hand if you got even a hint of my sarcasm. So one of the tasks on our big-deal fall assessment asks the kids to choose the word that rhymes with the initial picture. Turns out, if they simply choose the last choice every time, they make benchmark. Sort of like answering "C" every time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A snapshot of our day. Sometimes you just have to dance.

Kindergarten Chaos: Temporary (for now) Life Change
http://splatypus.blogspot.com/2012/03/temporary-for-now-life-change.html
Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Friday, March 2, 2012. Temporary (for now) Life Change. As I sat down to write this post, I reread my last post. I'm certain myself from then wouldn't have predicted myself now. Boy, I had some exciting ideas! I'm hoping Organized Chaos. Will carry that torch. NO ONE IS AT THE STORE. I can't give that up. I was thinking about all the teachers at our school the other day. I think we have around 30 - 35 classroom teachers give or take. I can count on one ha...At an...

Kindergarten Chaos: November 2010

Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. I'm not interested in a "who works harder" debate, but if I have to read one more article or hear one more story about how unfair it is that federal workers might be subject to a pay freeze for two years, I might scream. Welcome to reality my federal friends. I'm on 4 years and counting. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. My teammates have been grumbling about getting our testing done and data inputted by the school...

Because blogging is cheaper than therapy. Friday, November 11, 2011. If you think you've had a bad day. Think about a colleague of mine that slipped and fell in a pile of vomit. She fell so hard she thought she broke a bone and is bruised. There might be pain meds involved. Gah, can you imagine? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A snapshot of our day. Sometimes you just have to dance. You Must Read This! Elbows, knees, dreams. Elementary, My Dear, or Far From It. K is for Kindergarten.
