Efficiency matters – fiveguysandadinghy
https://fiveguysandadinghy.wordpress.com/2016/02/26/efficiency-matters/comment-page-1
Team work and Hard work. February 26, 2016. March 27, 2016. My promise was fulfilled. We finished our midship frame on Tuesday. Due to the snow storm, tomorrow is a snow day(thankfully! This week is the third consecutive short week we have had. So how much we did on these three days? Jacob and Will cut out the midship frame. Jacob tried to make sure the surface was even. Ran the frame on the jointer. After finishing the midship frame, the next step is to create the stem piece! First, we created a stem jig.

Team work and Hard work. May 14, 2016. Fine-tuning takes time. That was what I learned through this week. After finishing the yard and the boom, I started to do some fine-tuning with Jacob and Ross. The goal of fine-tuning is to given the dinghy perfect consistency, which means any imperfections need to be fixed. The first thing we did was filling the … More Week X update. No time to spare. May 8, 2016. No time to spare. How To Do Course. No time to spare. Plank with no panic. Short update for week 15.

Team work and Hard work. March 6, 2016. This past week we did much more planning than actual work on the dinghy itself. So this post will be not on what we have done, but what we are about to do, which is very exciting to say the least. This week we get to begin assembling the hull, attaching the bottom plank as … More The future…. Week 8 photos and video of laminating stem. February 28, 2016. Here are some fun photos of this week. Also, the video that I promise on Friday is here! February 26, 2016.

Team work and Hard work. No time to spare. May 8, 2016. May 8, 2016. It is enjoyable to see how much we have already accomplished, however, it is also a little bit nerve-wrecking to realize how much we still have to do before we can claim that we finish the dinghy. Excluding the final week, there are two weeks left in this school year. We really have to make every minutes count in the coming week, because there is no time to spare. Position the outer stem. Remove the stem, and epoxy the joint. You are co...

Team work and Hard work. The USS Mistakes Were Made. April 7, 2016. April 7, 2016. Todays mistake is what you see in those lovely pictures shown above. The kicker is that two mistakes are shown in that picture. The first are those Grand Canyon sized grooves I accidentally put there when the electric planer decided it was hungrier than usual and wanted to drive itself to lunch! Short update for week 15. On being a lifelong learner – Waypoints
https://nauticalarts.wordpress.com/2016/01/27/on-being-a-lifelong-learner/comment-page-1
Building boats, students, and community. On being a lifelong learner. January 27, 2016. March 3, 2016. Early in my teacher education experience I learned that being a teacher means being a lifelong learner, so here I am learning lesson after lesson as the Waypoints project continues. What have I learned so far? Some big lessons and some not-so-big lessons; some obvious, some maybe not so obvious – in no particular order:. The learning benefits them and. They can do with it later. Make it practical! 8211;...

Building boats, students, and community. First Steps: Building the ladder frame. January 28, 2016. March 3, 2016. Here’s a little glimpse into what they’ve been doing and how they’ve been doing it:. Once we had patterns to work with and share easily, the kids traced the patterns on 1/2″ plywood and cut out the station molds – i.e., the transverse sections that define the hull’s shape. Up next: Finishing the joints, cutting the transoms, laminating a central hull frame. On being a lifelong learner. I real...

Building boats, students, and community. Gearing up for Monday. February 28, 2016. March 3, 2016. Friday I mentioned our router sled. Here’s a picture of the arrangement. The sled is 3/4″ MDF. The supports/rails that the sled rides on are 1×2. I cut two blocks of wood to serve as depth gauges for our midship frames and our stem pieces. We’re using a straight 1/2″ bit with 2-1/4″ cut depth. Perhaps tomorrow we’ll have a chance to get more pictures and a video of the router sled in action. February 27, 2016.

Just another WordPress.com site. October 30, 2011. Today is our wedding anniversary. This picture was taken twelve years ago, just a couple of days before our wedding. I have this picture in a frame by our front door (I had to scan it, that’s why it’s crooked) and every once in a while I walk past it and think to myself, “Wow, we had no idea.”. Twelve years and six kids later, I couldn’t ask for more. I am so blessed. Things That Make Me Smile. October 4, 2011. Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Sheet Cake. Monta...
Five Guys and Me
Five Guys and Me. Wednesday, February 3, 2010. I have a new blog (because it is no longer just five guys and me)! Please go to http:/ www.fivelittleones.blogspot.com/. Monday, January 18, 2010. Sunday, January 17, 2010. Our three-year-old is giving us quite a few laughs these days with the funny things he says. Here are a few Carter-isms from the past couple of weeks. Too dark in his room, and of course the "I've got to go potty" call. That's when I tucked him in (again), kissed him on the forehead, and ...
