Project: Electric Booger: August 2013
http://electric-booger.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Friday, August 16, 2013. Today I removed the motor from the Electric Booger. It took a grand total of 50 minutes. It was almost like removing a starter from a Peterbilt. I inspected the motor coupler because there is unfortunately no way to do so when the motor is installed. I just have to trust that everything it tight (and nothing that is not supposed to move is not moving) and that it will get me to work on time. Posted by James Voth. This means that to ch...

An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Sunday, October 27, 2013. What Gear To Start Off With. First or second, that is the question. First is quicker off the line but the shift to second takes some time. So which way is quicker? Armed with curiosity, I took a video with my (cough.hands free.cough) smartphone to compare the two ways of starting off from a stop:. Posted by James Voth. Saturday, October 19, 2013. As you can tell, the Electric Booger is running better than ever and I am very happy wit...

An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. I can now plug it in and walk away. I have been using my new accessory battery charger for a couple of weeks and I am proud to say that I can finally plug the car in and walk away. If you are going to charge an accessory battery with its own charger instead of using a DC-DC convertor (like most sane people do! The trick is to give it a charger that chargers slightly quicker than the traction pack chargers. Posted by James Voth.

An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Finally.A Proper Video. Thank you iMovie for your help! Posted by James Voth. Saturday, July 27, 2013. Growing TO DO List Excitement. The growing TO DO list on the Electric Booger is becoming quite long. My insurance will run out sometime in August, when I can hopefully tackle most of these things before the fall/winter commuting begins. 4 Right axle - the right CV boot is torn and the CV joint is clicking like crazy on left hand tur...

Project: Electric Booger: A Little Summer Maintenance
http://electric-booger.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-little-summer-maintenance.html
An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Saturday, June 21, 2014. A Little Summer Maintenance. The Electric Booger has been parked since the insurance ran out at the beginning of the month. In Summer I ride my motorcycle exclusively, so no sense wasting money on car insurance when I don't need it. I am charging the pack, letting it float charge all day. It uses about 50 watts to keep the batteries happily sitting at 13.5V. It's something I do about once a month when the car sits. Since it does not l...

An electric car conversion on a tight budget. Saturday, April 13, 2013. Last night on my way home from work at midnight I started going up the one kilometer long hill when I noticed that the system voltage was lower than normal - 65V instead of the normal 68V at full throttle. So I reached over, grabbed my battery monitors and plugged them it. I gasped at what I saw: five pairs of batteries at a normal 11.5V and one pair at 5.5V! Posted by James Voth. ELECTRIC BOOGER 1992 Mazda MX-3 EV Conversion - $4200 (Cloverdale/Clayton). It's time to put my electric car on Craigslist. The Electric Booger started life as a 1992 Mazda MX-3 Precidia.
