Drafts with Dots: It all starts with Black or Red
http://draftswithdots.blogspot.com/2010/07/it-all-starts-with-black-or-red.html
Life at Iron Ridge Sport Horses. A Note about Sugarbush Draft Horses. I see it over and over again, and no matter how many times it's said, it's still wrong. Sugarbush Drafts are just an Appaloosa Draft Cross". Wednesday, July 14, 2010. It all starts with Black or Red. The "black" gene is actually called "Extension of Black" and is represented with an "E" or "e". Now, the first thing you have to know, is that all horses produce red pigment. Even the black ones! So, now to the fun stuff! Ash, a grey aged ...

Food for Founder: January 2011
http://foodforfounder.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 25, 2011. I forgot to add that I would not have a job in this ideal world, which is non-ideal. Murphy’s Law of Horses. Any trouble a horse can. Get into, a horse will. Have I ever mentioned that I am anal about keeping the paddock clean? In my ideal world* I could do it twice a day every day, so my psyche finds this once every other day shtick a little hard to take. As such, I often muck the paddock in the morning on days when I am home and then leave the huge wheelbarrow. 8220;Unnecessa...

Food for Founder: February 2010
http://foodforfounder.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. Today we are taking my mother, David's parents and our friend Roger to Strahan, on the wild west coast of Tassie. Last night I tried to double-check the driving time using Google Maps and got this:. It’s a little hard to read, but the basic route is from Hobart, Indiana through the US to Seattle, over to Hawaii, then Japan, then Indonesia, Australia and finally Strahan, Tasmania. Estimated driving time = 56 days. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Rock and Racehorses: The Blog.

Maybe Mae: Devastated
http://maybemae.blogspot.com/2009/04/devastated.html
Sunday, April 19, 2009. Things have been tough lately. Last week, I lost a friend. She had a lengthy illness and it wasn't exactly unexpected, but of course that doesn't help how much it hurts. As anyone who ever lost a loved one knows, the loss - whether it's a family member, a friend, a horse or a pet - tends to trigger other losses, too. So as I grieve for my friend, I also grieve for my mother, my dog from 5 years ago, and the amazing Arab mare I had during my childhood and teens. I hope you are ok.

Maybe Mae: September 2008
http://maybemae.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2008. A Poorly Braided, Tail-Chasing, Bouncy-Trotting Mess. Bart: I thought you said you wanted a challenge. Lisa: Duh. A challenge I can. That's about where I am right now. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be riding Marve in the schooling show next month. And I'm already getting nervous. 1 Convincing Marve he does NOT want to chase down the horse in front of him and ride right. on. its. tail. To it (Although, wtf? And get him nice and round (if I'm lucky), but if he ge...

Maybe Mae: January 2009
http://maybemae.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2009. Shedding Fear = Better Riding (duh). But we still have a lot to work on. A lot. My riding seems so hot and cold. I feel like I know what it's like to have it together and ride well and give effective aids.but knowing and doing are in a very. Long-distance relationship right now. It's frustrating. Try But I listen to my instructor and try to see how her comments specifically apply to my riding and what I can do to get better. I certainly didn't whine back, "But I am. I've been fe...

Maybe Mae: I want a pony.
http://maybemae.blogspot.com/2009/03/i-want-pony.html
Monday, March 23, 2009. I want a pony. Some things never change. I will always want a pony. And judging by some horsey message boards I was on, it looks like this is a desire shared by other adult women, too. Still, was I a brat or what? Good lord ponies are cute. I know I will totally own a pony someday. Somehow, and perhaps not for logical reasons, that goal seems more attainable than owning a full-sized horse. I mean, I know ponies are a little cheaper to feed but other than that you're talkin...Yes, ...

Maybe Mae: Small Check, Big Post
http://maybemae.blogspot.com/2009/05/small-check-big-post.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Small Check, Big Post. It’s already May 13 and I’m finally getting around to sharing this news:. The lease check I wrote to the barn this month was a lot smaller than usual. As in, only half the amount. May 15 will be my last day leasing Marve. As for me, I hope to be back. Maybe it will be when I take up another lease, or when I decide I’d like to blog in detail about my lessons and progress, or maybe even the day I finally feel ready to buy a horse. For now, IR...I really sy...
