Locally, Conrail continued modernizing by enlarging the Allegheny and New Portage tunnels and closing several of the manned control towers (now controlled remotely by the train dispatcher in Pittsburgh). It is located directly across the park area in the newly renovated community building which houses, in addition to the museum, borough offices, police station, modern library and archival room, with an up-to-date information retrieval system. All buildings and parking are ADA regulated with the exception of a narrow corridor within the caboose.
