Getting Grist

Sunday, 1 June 2014. Brewday - Cream Ale 05/06/2014. It's been a while. A change of work regime has impacted more than expected, but I'm still here and I'm still brewing. A Cream Ale is on the agenda this week. The local homebrew club has a 'lager' night coming up, but I didn't fancy brewing a lager and thought a Cream Ale might fit the bill just as well. End of Boil Volume. Lager, Single Stage. Taste Rating(out of 50):. Pale Malt, Maris Otter (Thomas Fawcett) (5.9 EBC). Munich Malt (17.7 EBC). Sunday, J...

Getting Grist: Homebrew Review - Best Bitter

http://www.gettinggrist.blogspot.com/2014/02/homebrew-review-best-bitter.html

Friday, 7 February 2014. Homebrew Review - Best Bitter. This beer was brewed back in November. To be honest, it's another disappointing beer. Yes, it looks the part, but in all other aspects it's very unexceptional. It pours nice and bright, is a decent colour, although the white head doesn't hang around very long. There's not much on the nose, a few earthy and spicy notes, but nothing particularly inviting. Friday, February 07, 2014. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Homebrew...

Getting Grist: August 2013

http://www.gettinggrist.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Friday, 30 August 2013. Hop Harvest - 2013. I spent the last couple of evenings harvesting my Bramling Cross hops. We got these two bags on Wednesday and I went up again on Thursday to get what was left, which was about half as much again. The hops are now spread upon net curtains which adorn various parts my loft, 'hammock' style. It's so hot and stuffy up there, the cones dried in about two days last year. Once done, I'll vacuum pack them and stick them in the freezer - then on to brew. Also, my beers ...

Saturday, 22 February 2014. Homebrew Review - Blind Tiger. Life is too short for mediocre beer. And if you're brewing ten gallon batches and get it badly wrong, that's a shedload of mediocre beer to get through. I'm not sure when I last ditched a batch, but this particular beer. Was a disaster from start to finish. It started with the recipe. A good idea, badly executed. So all in all, a pretty poor effort, both in design and execution. I'm ditching all the bottles and will make a decision on the oth...

Monthly Archives: November 2016. Imperial Stout – Take 2. November 8, 2016. The first Imperial Stout I brewed last time isn’t a BAD beer per se. Imperial Coffee Stout | The-ale-gy

Soul Glo NE IPA →. September 1, 2016. I’ve never brewed an Imperial Stout. I love the big boys like BCS, Abyss, Ten Fidy, Speedway, Yeti, etc. but haven’t ventured to try one before mostly because it’s easier to drink 5 gallons of lower alcohol beer and it’s much cheaper to make smaller ABV beers. But we’re gonna splurge here and hopefully create a beer that ages well. OG – 1.098. FG – 1.023. ABV – 10.1%. IBU – 60. SRM – 54. 2-Row – 15 lbs. White Wheat – 1 lb. UK Pale Chocolate – 1 lb. Soul Glo NE IPA 2 →. December 20, 2016. Ex Novo Brewing makes an incredible English Mild called “Where the Mild Things Are” that weighs in at just 3.5% and has a ton of wonderful flavor. To be honest, I have NO idea what they use or how to make a mild. I read up on the style quite a bit and have mostly deferred to a homebrewer. OG – 1.041. FG – 1.013. ABV – 3.8%. IBU – 18. SRM – 23. Monthly Archives: June 2016. Soul Glo NE APA. June 27, 2016. The interwebs are abuzz with talk and conflict over Northeast Pale’s and IPA’s. Is this an actual style? Why do people like cloudy beer? Plot 66: Feeling Chilli?

http://plot66.blogspot.com/2014/01/feeling-chilli.html

Home brewing antics can now be found at my other blog;. Http:/ gettinggrist.blogspot.com. Friday, 31 January 2014. It's time to turn up the heat. As chilli peppers have a long growing time before fruiting and ripening, they need to be started early. Earlier in the month I brought in some seed compost from the shed - no seed is going to like cold January compost. I propped it up against a radiator in the spare room for a week or so (on an old piece of lino to save any hysterics from the wife). View my com...

Home brewing antics can now be found at my other blog;. Http:/ gettinggrist.blogspot.com. Wednesday, 15 January 2014. Foreign Seeds for 2014. It's rather sad of me I know, but when I'm away on vacation with the family I always make time to peruse the seeds on offer in the French shops, to bring back something different for the following growing year. Last summer I purchased these;. Even my basic French can see that the carrots are a Nantes 2 variety. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Don't Lose The Plot.

Getting Groovy (and Grails). Explorations in Groovy and Grails Development. Groovy for DSL’s – looks like an interesting book! I recently ordered an ebook version of Groovy for Domain Specific Languages. It’s a book by Packt publishing regarding DSLs and how to implement them using Groovy so it’s obviously pretty interesting to me. I’ll post a proper review when I get a chance to read it next month while I’m traveling, but in the meantime, there’s a free chapter. Anyone else had a chance to read this yet?
