North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory: 21st to 23rd June

http://northronbirdobs.blogspot.com/2015/06/21st-to-23rd-june.html

Wednesday, 24 June 2015. 21st to 23rd June. With such poor weather earlier in the spring, I guess we shouldn't be surprised that the birds seem to keep on trickling in. The most significant new arrivals on the 21st were 2 Little Stints. At Bewan Loch (remaining to 22nd), 4 Crossbills. A Lesser Whitethroat and a Spotted Flycatcher. The Subalpine Warbler. Was still at Gravity and at least one of the Marsh Warblers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The 2014 Bird report is now available for order. NRBO wa...

North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory: 21st July

http://northronbirdobs.blogspot.com/2015/07/21st-july.html

Tuesday, 21 July 2015. A Honey Buzzard took us by surprise today, startling the observer as it flew north over Gretchen loch at 4pm, pursued by Arctic Terns. It was tracked up the island to Nether Linnay, before turning south over Torness and being lost to sight. 65279;. Honey Buzzard photos by George Gay. There was no sign of yesterday's White-rumped Sandpiper despite a thorough look by a volunteer team who are quite embarrassed about misidentifying it. Kind Regards, Peter. 25 July 2015 at 13:07.

North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory: May 2015

http://northronbirdobs.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 May 2015. After a bright start, the first strong south-easterly winds for weeks whipped up and with heavy rain from lunchtime, expectations developed that there would be a few migrants. The day began once more with the VEERY. Or Todd's Canada Goose. Most of the other sightings were after the rain started lashing down and understandably came from the sheltered west coast. Presumably, yesterdays Red-necked Phalarope. Remained at Bewan Loch. Bluethroat in the rain (photo MW). North Ronaldsay's se...

North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory: 24th to 25th June

http://northronbirdobs.blogspot.com/2015/06/24th-to-25th-june.html

Friday, 26 June 2015. 24th to 25th June. Without doubt the best two days of the year weather wise as the island was baked in wall to wall sunshine on both dates. A well appreciated adult Black Tern. On the beach at Nouster with a flock of 80 non-breeding Arctic Terns for a few hours on 24th was the highlight and becomes just the thirteenth island record but only the second since 2003. There was also a singing Quail. Black Tern (top photo Molly Laban, bottom MW). Wheatear (photo Molly Laban). The body plu...

Sunday, 2 August 2015. Holme Pierrepont, Sunday 2 August. It would have been hard to beat the conditions this morning - overcast, still and warm, but not hot. If this didn't produce a decent catch, then we might as well have hung up our pliers. Fortunately it did. A team of Kev, Gary, Alex, Duncan, Sue, Tom and I finished on 123 birds (111 new/12 retrap) comprising:. The site did feel reasonably busy with feeding flocks moving throughout, although Long-tailed Tits were few. There were a couple of flo...

South Notts Ringing Group: Hobbies, Thurs 6 August

http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/08/hobbies-thurs-6-august.html

Sunday, 9 August 2015. Hobbies, Thurs 6 August. As we approach the end of a very disappointing season for owls and kestrels, it was good to find two healthy Hobby chicks to ring in the Vale of Belvoir. Interestingly they were in the same nest as last year and the structure seemed to have grown. Mick P climbed expertly as ever and with a bit of an audience. As well as Jim and myself, my family came along and so did some friends who happen to be the local farming family. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
