Groups from the two towns traditionally take it in turn to visit each other on alternate years, sometimes with Town Council representation. People normally stay with families in the other town, as arranged by the respective associations. Friendships are often established in this way, and informal visits often follow in addition to the ‘official’ occasions, for example to attend the October wine festival in Joigny. Events are held regularly throughout the year. In 2016 we have held:. Our AGM on May 25th which was well attended for this type of event The current committee was re-elected en masse. A boules evening at the Foresters’ Arms in Kirdford. 20 of our members and their friends spent a very enjoyable time, blessed by decent weather. Alan Johnston was the star of the event, achieving a a maximum and unbeatable score of 26!

In 2011 our visit to Joigny was the occasion for our members Barbara Noakes and Nigel Thomson to be inducted into Joigny’s Order of Wine Tasters. In 2012 the Mayor of Joigny visited and enjoyed a 14th July celebration with us. Our Joigny friends enjoying an afternoon’s music at the Godalming bandstand on Sunday 15th July 2012. In November 2013 we celebrated the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau with a splendid dinner. Here are a few photos of the day. A sunny day attracted many visitors!

The first thing that Burgundy evokes for most people is the wine, or rather the wines, because there is a wealth of different types. The picturesque town of Chablis – source of some wonderful whites – is just a little to the south of Joigny and provides a memorable destination for an afternoon, with ample tasting opportunities. You return to the lovely whites of Pouilly-Fuissé and then you’re on the edge of Beaujolais.
