Birding and Blogging in Galveston, Texas. With no rain in weeks the marshy ponds on Boddeker Rd. are shrinking drastically. I stopped by Saturday morning before work and there was a nice variety of bird life gathered. Black Skimmers. Great and Snowy Egrets. Youngster came scampering out of the reeds and wandered so close to where I was standing I couldn’t get focus with my 400mm prime! Young birds can be so incautious. Clapper Rails. August 2, 2015. The stars of today included the Tundra Bean-goose (from Russia), a few Common Loon’s, a female Ruddy Duck, a couple of Lesser Scaups, Canvasbacks, a Cooper’s Hawk and a Western Grebe.
