Gretchen's Grits: July 2013
http://gretchensgrits.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Oh yeah. I have a blog. Last week my sister. Re-entered the blogging world after a few months off. And like any good little sister, I figured I should follow suit. Why, you ask? Well maybe you didn't ask, but I'm going to tell you anyway. Finally it's summer. And I have time. I will probably post a handful of posts and then go a little crazy when a new school year starts. So enjoy it while you can! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Gretchen's Grits: Gothic/Horror Stories
http://gretchensgrits.blogspot.com/2013/10/gothichorror-stories.html
Thursday, October 24, 2013. My high school class is reading Dracula. I' must be capitalized. No exceptions." "But Miss. It's too hard.". You do not need to hit enter for every sentence. That does not count toward your minimum one page.". A two-paged story should have more than one paragraph.". You're in 9th grade. Do you know how to use a period? Obviously not." (Ok, ok. I was a bit more kind than that.). But I also love the errors due to second language acquisition. How does one gently critique that?
Gretchen's Grits: August 2012
http://gretchensgrits.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 14, 2012. 8220;Dear Sir: Regarding your article 'What's Wrong with the World? I am Yours truly,”. I tend to have a VERY long-winded answer to that question. Mean drivers on the Beltway, my neighbor whose cigarette-infused apartment. Greets me every day, interminably slow clerks at the store, red lights, Capitol Hill, Westboro Baptist, the cost of gas in Northern VA, and my current supply of chocolate in the pantry. There are MANY things far worse than me. Note: While the validity of this ...

ONE day! | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/one-day
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; Months 8, 9, and 10. 11 and 12 months. Yesterday Nathan turned one year old. How can this be? Wasn’t he born only a few months back? And yet I can barely remember life before he came. Tim’s Aunt even made a Winnie-the-Pooh cake, which Nathan delved into rather timidly (Tim would like me to note that Nathan was NOT timid about delving into the vanilla ice-cream). It was so fun to do a big birthday bash with people who. And running the dishwasher (we tea...
1/4 Year | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/2012/06/20/14-year
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; 2 months! I apologize for being a day late with this post–just as I was hitting publish late last night, the computer ate 3/4ths of what I had just written. Today Nathan is 3 months old! This first 1/4 year of his life has flown by, that’s for sure! What a blessing from God he is to us and our families. We continue to be awed by the goodness and grace of God that we experience through our son. In the past month, Nathan’s smiles have erupted! He’s...
11 and 12 months | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/11-and-12-months
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; ONE day! 11 and 12 months. Month 11 was a big one for Nathan! On January 28th, a judge in the Henrico County court signed his adoption finalization papers, which means we are completely, totally, name-changingly FINISHED with the adoption process! It took us a little longer than normal (usually finalization occurs around 9 months), but we did it! What a fun adventure all that was, and so nice to see so many people! He graduated from an army crawl to a ...

Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; The Name. We’re a third of a year into this whole Nathan thing, and wow. It’s been a big month for us in many ways, including:. Unfortunately, Nathan got his first ear infection(s) this month as well–in both ears. Poor little guy was pretty miserable a few evenings last week and he’s been off his feed and his sleep schedule since. But we’ve got him on an antibiotic and he’s returning to normal, slow but sure. We love our Nather-bug! From your own site.
All Things Great and Small: April 2012
http://thingsgreatsmall.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
All Things Great and Small. Favorite Meals and Ideas. Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Just when my tears were falling deep enough to drown. Down in the valley of the shadow of a doubt. When I gave up that’s when He came to lift me out. And set me high. When I saw it as a gift of matchless worth. I started thinking it was something I deserved. He pulled the rug from underneath without a word. And left me dry. Piece together these little mysteries. It isn’t hard to see the writing on the wall. Links to this post.
Early Readers | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/book-lists/early-readers
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Books for young elementary readers:. Ranks: 5-Must read/4-Great read/3-Good read/2-Fair read/1-Don’t read. 3-The Boxcar Children (and series) by Gertrude Warner. I especially appreciate how respectful the Alden children are of their Grandfather and each other. These are not Christian books, but they do offer solid moral values very age appropriately! 1-Mandy Series by Lois Gladys Leopard. I read these books growing up (I even owned them! My brother loved thes...
Adult Readers | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/book-lists/adult-readers
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Rating system: 5-MUST read. 4-GREAT read. 3-GOOD read. 2-OKAY read. 1-DON’T read. 4- A Song I Knew By. Not a light read, but very worthwhile as a deep, powerful story of forgiveness. One of the few books that makes me cry. 3-Ancient Highway by Brett Lott. Well known (Oprah’s Book List) and well written, some marital sex, too little resolution/growth in the end. 2- The Man Who Owned Vermont. 3-Blindness by Jose Saramago. A nice book. It is not. 8220;Why did we...

Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; It’s been a month! Hi, my name is Nathan Cornelius, and today is my birthday. My two month birthday, that is. I hate that thing. The whole being sick thing kind of messed with my schedule–I went from sleeping 5 hours at night to 2. But want to know how I know I’m feeling better? I slept 5 hours again last night. Whoo-hoo! I have a few favorite things, and here is what they are:. I have a few favorite activities, and here is what they are:. 1 Eating....
6 months | DoubleKnotted
https://doubleknotted.wordpress.com/2012/09/20/6-months
Two husbands, two homes, and one young bride. Laquo; 5 months. Yesterday marked 6 months for our little Nathan-bug! Nathan’s personality has developed in leaps and bounds this last month. He loves to smile and laugh at us, especially when we play peek-a-boo with him. He “talks” constantly during the day–to us and to himself. No legible words yet, but he recognizes some of the words we say–he knows to look expectantly for Tim when he hears “da-da”! That pleased me greatly. You can leave a response. What d...

Gretchen's thoughts
Sunday, November 30, 2014. The Humble Peace Maker. One day, I watched two brothers in a heated argument. The first one was very angry and struggling to hear what his brother had to say. The second brother humbly went to his knees to plead with his brother to calm down and think through his actions. A year later, the first brother is facing assault charges for a separate situation. Romans 14:9 says, "So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.". Proverbs 12:20 say...
