Growing A Kid

Why I Go To Church, Even When Haters Gonna Hate. Today I had my first overtly negative, specifically addressed to me, response to my kids being in worship at church. Congregations say they want kids in worship. That we need more families in the pews because they are the future of the church. Right? That’s the line I continually hear, especially from older parishioners. But when kids are actually present in a Sunday morning worship service are they actually welcomed? They love the teens (and have already ...

flight | Growing A Kid

Planes, Trains, and No Automobiles! Two weeks ago, Henry and I traveled to Washington, DC to visit Henry’s godmother, Tia Vanesa! It was his third airplane ride (round trip flight), but his first alone with me. Keith had flown to Detroit, MI to be part of the ELCA National Youth Gathering, chaperoning 6 youth from our church. We were sad to be without him, but excited to visit with not only Vanesa, but also some of my other college besties – Marcie, Amber, and Lisa! Elliot is Three Months Old!

Tag Archives: sesame street. Happy Birthday, Grandma! This year, my mom celebrated her birthday with us, and I think she had a great day! My parents, Henry, and I headed out to Busch Gardens to play despite it being five-thousand degrees outside because we have passes courtesy of my sis-in-law, Amanda, who works for the company. It is super nice because we don’t have to spend all day there trying to cram everything in, and can take time to enjoy and focus on seeing only a portion of the park.

DC Adventures (Mostly in Food). Looking back at the pictures my friends and I actually took over our DC trip, most of them involved gathering around a table and enjoying delicious food and drinks drinks and even better conversation. We started off the weekend right with sangria (super sweet) and Jazz in the Garden. We sprawled in the shadow of weird sculptures with hundreds of others. Since we didn’t bring food, we walked to Hill Country Barbecue Market. For melt-in-your-mouth brisket and so many sides.

Growing a human | adventures in building a person… and trying not to screw up too badly

Adventures in building a person… and trying not to screw up too badly. May 31, 2012. Is it really that bad? Jake is two months old today, so I feel like I’ve got some authority on what it’s really like to have a new baby. Mainly, is it really as bad as everyone says it is? The short answer is — no. The real answer is — it depends on how much of a pansy you are. Let me break it down for you. Though I must say, the couple of times when he projectile pooped across the room were not my favorite. Here’s...
